What is surrender?

Surrender means yielding voluntarily to another’s authority, and for Christians, that ultimate authority is God. Though surrender doesn’t come naturally, believers discover genuine freedom only through yielding to God.

*Difference between surrender and submission. They overlap. One has to do with external. Surrender is more internal.

Surrender flows from love—it’s a loving response to God’s character, expressed through submission to his will. Submitting to God’s Word leads believers to relinquish control over their own lives, affirming that their heavenly Father knows best.

Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.”

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

Those who submit to God’s will come under his care. Most of what God offers remains inaccessible until we surrender.

Romans 12:1–2 “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Luke 9:23–24 “And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.”

How do I surrender?

Daily surrender - His will over your will.

Surrender specific areas - I give you full control of this area of my life. Do as you please in my marriage, finances, life, relationships, etc.

Handle problems and opportunities in a way that honors God.
