Hard Questions About Hard Topics

Psalm 139:13-16 (read entire Psalm)

Let’s be serious about tonight’s topic. There are some things that don’t make sense logically to us and are not in agreement with how God created, but these people really believe this and our goal tonight is not just to show where they’re wrong, but to show them God’s love in truth without argument or hatred.
Thesis: Transgenderism is built on the foundation that God made a mistake in how He created someone. It says one of two things: either (1) God is inconsistent in His creation therefore making Him imperfect, or (2) sin has the power to overtake God’s creation and is therefore stronger than God. Scripture paints a clear picture of how deep God’s creation of man goes. He deeply cares and love His creation and is fully involved in it, to the point of every cell of our bodies being created by Him.
Transgenderism (and homosexuality) are pointed out in society, but they, like every other sin, bring about the same consequences - eternal separation from God. Be careful not to isolate these sins while glossing over others (examples of sins that are common yet accepted while transgenderism and homosexuality aren’t - sexual relations outside of marriage, living together without being married, etc.)

Introduction

What does it mean for someone to be transgender?
Your gender does not match your assigned sex at birth
American Psychiatric Association - “Sex is assigned at birth, refers to one’s biological status as either male or female, and is associated primarily with physical attributes such as chromosomes, hormone prevalence, and external and internal anatomy. Gender refers to the socially constructed roles, behaviors, activities, and attributes that a given society considers appropriate for boys and men or girls and women. These influence the ways that people act, interact, and feel about themselves. While aspects of biological sex are similar across different cultures, aspects of gender may differ.”
Gender Dysphoria - the psychological distress that results from an incongruence between one's sex assigned at birth and one's gender identity
World Health Organization
Gender Incongruence - persistent incongruence between an individual's experienced gender and the assigned sex, which often leads to a desire for health care services to align the body with that identity
That doesn’t sound biblical… Can I defend why it doesn’t…? Can I share the truth about it from God’s word…? (We should be able to)
Something key is knowing what God’s word says about where sex and gender come from and what they are based off of
Genesis 1:26–28 “Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.””
God created male and female (sex) and commanded them to multiply which can only happen between the opposite sexes
So what does this have to do with gender?
In Scripture, males are always referred to with masculine pronouns and females with feminine pronouns. This is true in the original languages and in translation. God, through His perfect word, shows where gender comes from - His creation of man and woman… (the one cannot be the other…)
We can convince ourselves of a lot of things that aren’t true and even do things to affirm our sin…
Story of Aaron leading someone who fully transitioned to salvation… (leave out him using their preferred pronouns right now)
Story of man in Mexico that wanted to transition before he got saved…
What do these stories show us…? No one is too far gone. God loves the transgender the same as He loves everyone else. Just because it does not make sense to us does not mean that we should hate them or not care about them
“formed” - to create
“inward parts” - kidneys; organs; what is inside of my body
Everything that makes his body function and live
“wove” - formed; idea of knitting
Possibly talking about veins and arteries
“fearfully” - honorably
“wonderfully” - miraculous
God’s works are miraculous, unable to be performed by man, and that work includes the creation of the human
“frame” - bones, structure; what holds the body together
God created what’s inside the body and created what holds it together
“made in secret” - we cannot see what is being made, but God can and does
“skillfully wrought” - refers to someone that weaves colored thread together
“unformed substance” - embryo
God already knows how long we will live even before we were a thought…
Three truths to take away:
God Formed Us
He created us from scratch intricately
God Knows Us
God knows us physically, mentally, and spiritually
God Cares For Us
God took the time and the effort to do these things for each one of us, showing His love and care for us
Back to the story of Aaron leading that person to Jesus using their pronouns…
Should we use people preferred pronouns when talking to them or sharing the Gospel with them? (What does the Bible say? Specifically about truth and the way to communicate it…)
What is our motive in talking with them?
No anger, hatred, desire to “win an argument,” trying to prove a point that you’re right and they’re wrong
To get them to the Gospel…
