Matthew 11:28–30 “28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.””
Add or take in away to make the Word fit their situation
Use it when it works for us
When we think God should understand we provide for ourselves and justify what goes against the Word
Matthew 12:1–14 “1 At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick some heads of grain and eat them. 2 When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, “Look! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath.” 3 He answered, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? 4 He entered the house of God, and he and his companions ate the consecrated bread—which was not lawful for them to do, but only for the priests. 5 Or haven’t you read in the Law that the priests on Sabbath duty in the temple desecrate the Sabbath and yet are innocent?
Don’t Add or Take away from the Word
Rules On top of the Bible can move you further from God
Can move others further from God
Makes us trust in works not relationship
Our own power not His Spirit
The Pharisees and ancient rabbis added extensive oral traditions to the Bible, 39 main categories of prohibited work (known as the Melachot). These categories spawned thousands of strict micro-rules
It is possible that we place unnecessary weight on people God never intended us to
It possible you may place unnecessary burdens on ourselves take His Word as is
don't add anything to it or take anything away
Deuteronomy 4:1–2 “Now, Israel, hear the decrees and laws I am about to teach you. Follow them so that you may live and may go in and take possession of the land the Lord, the God of your ancestors, is giving you. Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you.”
They added so much to the Word around the Sabbath that could no longer recognize the Lord of the Sabbath, they could not engage The Lord of Rest.
I am not worthy to talk to God
Ask Him for help
Try to do it on m on
Feel unworthy to serve Him
Feel like I need to get it together before going to him, church
2. People need more help then scorn (this includes you)
Matthew 12:6 I tell you that something greater than the temple is here. 7 If you had known what these words mean, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent. 8 For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.” 9 Going on from that place, he went into their synagogue, 10 and a man with a shriveled hand was there. Looking for a reason to bring charges against Jesus, they asked him, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?” 11 He said to them, “If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out? 12 How much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”
I desire Mercy
1 Thessalonians 5:14 “And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone.”
Galatians 6:1–3 “1 Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. 2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. 3 If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves.”
Law of Christ: John 13:34 “34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”
I couldn't sit still hearing this passage. They are the teachers, leaders of people and care not about people. They more about their laws than people
They are in wrong business
John 13:34–35 ““A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.””
Matthew 12:13 Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out and it was completely restored, just as sound as the other. 14 But the Pharisees went out and plotted how they might kill Jesus.”
