True Freedom: Free From

Free From…

John 8:31–36 NIV

To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?” Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Jesus offers freedom but we don’t always realize we need to be freed.

—> Free from sin

—> This to me is the easiest

—> deep down we know its wrong and we want out but we aren’t sure of the way

—> Jesus is the way. The Gospel is the Way!

—> Free from religiosity

—> The stuff that doesn’t matter

—> “Keep the main this the main thing.”

—> We need/want more rules more structure more guidelines

—> God wants to free us from that. Jesus tried to free people from that.

—> when asked about fasting, Jesus responded that the relationship was more important.

—> when asked about rule keeping on the Sabbath, Jesus responded that life transforming work was more important.

—> Jesus continually says I am more important than any “religious rule” If you have to pick one pick ME!

—> Free from ourselves

—> These human bodies are broken and will always be broken until Christ comes again.

—> part of their brokenness is their susceptibility to attacks from the devil

—>

So what is the source of our freedom?

—> the truth of who Jesus Christ is.

—> The one who was sent to free us and did.
