BEING FIRM IN THE FAITH

INTRODUCTION

THE APOSTLE PAUL WROTE THIS LETTER FROM PRISON TO THE SAINTS IN COLOSSE TO COUNTER FALSE TEACHINGS IN COLOSSAE AND TO ESTABLISH THE SUPREME DIVINITY AND SUFFICIENCY OF JESUS CHRIST. PAUL GAVE THE SAINTS 3 KEYS TO WAR AGAINST FALSE TEACHINGS
KNOW CHRIST IS PREEMINENT.
WE ARE COMPLETE IN CHRIST.
THAT WE NEED TO SEEK AND SET OUR MINDS ON THINGS ABOVE.
A. CHRIST PREEMINENT
Colossians 1:15–19 “who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: for by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: and he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;”
CHRIST PREEMINENT - MEANS THAT CHRIST HOLDS THE HIGHEST RANK, STATUS, AND SUPREMACY OVER ALL THINGS.
PAUL COUNTER AGAINST FALSE TEACHING THAT EVERYTHING BEGINS WITH CHRIST AND ENDS WITH HIM. THEIR IS NO OTHER GOD THAT CREATED ANYTHING BUT CHRIST. PAUL WANTED THE SAINTS IN COLOSSE TO KNOW WHO THEY ARE AND WHOM THEY BELONG TO.
THE PROBLEM WITH SO MANY CHURCH PEOPLE TODAY THEY DO NOT KNOW WHO THEY ARE. SO THEY LOOK FOR PEOPLE TO IDOLIZE, INSTEAD OF BEING WHAT GOD CREATED THEM TO BE. PEOPLE ARE ITIMATED OF THOSE WHO KNOW WHO THEY’RE IN CHRIST. WHEN YOU KNOW WHO YOU’RE IN CHRIST, YOU FOLLOW GOD IN THE PERSON, BUT NOT THE PERSON HIMSELF. BECAUSE JESUS IS THE ONLY PERSON THAT WALK THIS EARTH WITHOUT SIN. THAT’S WHY SO MANY PEOPLE BEEN DECEIVED BY OTHERS, BECAUSE THEY HAVE DEPENDED ON THE MAN INSTEAD OF THE CREATOR.
JESUS DID NOT NEED NO ONE TO INSTRUCT HIM BECAUSE HE WAS THE WORD. THAT’S WHY IT’S SO IMPORTANT TO STUDY THE WORD SO THAT YOU KNOW THE TRUTH FROM A ERROR.
2 Corinthians 4:4 “in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”
B. WE ARE COMPLETE IN CHRIST.
Colossians 2:9–10 “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:”
WHEN YOU’RE COMPLETE IN CHRIST, YOU’RE NOT LACKING IN NOTHING. SO WHY SO MANY OF US STILL LOOKING FOR SATISFACTION IN OTHER AREAS OF OUR LIVES. WHOLENESS CANNOT COME FROM NO WHERE ELSE BESIDES A RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST. THERE IS NO WORD OUTSIDE OF WHAT JESUS HAS SPOKEN CAN CHANGE A LIFE LIKE HE CAN. IF JESUS IS NOT ENOUGH IN YOUR LIFE, IT’S BECAUSE YOU’RE LOST. CHRIST DIED FOR US SO THAT WE CAN BE SUFFICIENT IN ALL THINGS. GOD NO LONGER LOOK AT US AS SINNERS, BUT HE LOOKS AT US THROUGH THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF HIS SON JESUS. YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFUL WHO YOU ALLOWING TO SPEAK OVER YOU, WHEN YOU ALREADY BEEN SPOKEN FOR. CHRIST CREATED YOU, HE KNOWS YOU BY YOUR NAME, AND HE THE ONE HAS PLANS FOR YOU.
WHEN YOU COMPLETE IN HIM, CHRIST BECOMES LORD IN YOUR LIFE.
Ephesians 3:19 “and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.”
C. SEEK AND SET YOUR MINDS ON THINGS FROM ABOVE.
Colossians 3:1–2 “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”
WHEN YOU’RE SEEKING THOSE THINGS FROM ABOVE, YOUR MIND HAVE TO GO TO HIGHER LEVEL THAN WHAT YOU SEE HERE ON EARTH. IN ORDER FOR YOU TO GET KNOWLEDGE OR WISDOM FROM ANYTHING YOU MUST SEE IT IN THE SPIRITUAL BEFORE IT MANIFEST IN THE EARTHLY. WHEN YOUR MIND IS FOCUS ON THINGS THAT ARE ABOVE, YOU WON’T GIVE ATTENTION TO THOSE THINGS THAT WILL TRY TO DISTRACT YOU. THAT’S WHY ITS IMPORTANT TO SET YOUR MINDS ON THINGS FROM ABOVE. WHEN YOU SET YOUR MIND ON THINGS ABOVE, YOU’RE CHOOSING GOD’S PERSPECTIVE OVER ANYONE ELSE OPINIONS.
Philippians 3:20–21 “For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.”
