Ephesians 1:17

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

Gifts - Spirit

 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.

1 Corinthians 12:11

All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.

•     no human involvement at this point

Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.

Wisdom

1 Corinthians 12:8 NIV

To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom

1 Corinthians 1:25 NIV

For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

how great to rely on God’s foolishness

God’s wisdom is Christ crucified

I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.

this is our starting point for wisdom

human endeavour and wisdom does not pass muster

our faith, our works are based on God’s power

wisdom associated with a demonstration of god’s power

this is what we should be striving to do

What is Wisdom

wisdom is applying our knowledge correctly

correct is righteous - Jesus based

wisdom comes through life

making mistakes and correcting them leads to wisdom

Spiritual Wisdom

spiritual gift of wisdom is always needed

when our taught wisdom is not enough

wisdom for when we do not know

wisdom when the God factor is needed

wisdom when the world’s wisdom is inadequate

Knowledge

1 Corinthians 12:8 NIV

to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit,

we get knowledge from the Scriptures

this is the mind

we get knowledge from our fellow believers

this is cultural and social

we get knowledge from the Spirit

this is divine intention

this knowledge is specific

it is meant to be used in a situation

a word regarding past trauma or hurts

a word shedding light on something current

a word highlighting a danger

a word to demonstrate God’s awareness

Faith

1 Corinthians 12:9 NIV

to another faith

Faith in Believing

1 Corinthians 15:14 NIV

And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.

the Spirit convicts us of our sin

He brings revelaton of the work of Jesus

he gives us faith to confess Jesus is Lord

spiritual gift of faith is different

Faith Increasing

the apostles said to the Lord “increase our faith” Luke 5:17

Jesus said to the woman “your faith has saved you” Luke 7:50

Luke 7:8–10 NIV

For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, “I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.” Then the men who had been sent returned to the house and found the servant well.
