I. God Called Noah
I. God Called Noah
5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. 7 So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. 9 These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God. 10 And Noah had three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 11 Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. 13 And God said to Noah, “I have determined to make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth. 14 Make yourself an ark of gopher wood. Make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and out with pitch. 15 This is how you are to make it: the length of the ark 300 cubits, its breadth 50 cubits, and its height 30 cubits. 16 Make a roof for the ark, and finish it to a cubit above, and set the door of the ark in its side. Make it with lower, second, and third decks. 17 For behold, I will bring a flood of waters upon the earth to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life under heaven. Everything that is on the earth shall die. 18 But I will establish my covenant with you, and you shall come into the ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. 19 And of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every sort into the ark to keep them alive with you. They shall be male and female. 20 Of the birds according to their kinds, and of the animals according to their kinds, of every creeping thing of the ground, according to its kind, two of every sort shall come in to you to keep them alive. 21 Also take with you every sort of food that is eaten, and store it up. It shall serve as food for you and for them.” 22 Noah did this; he did all that God commanded him. 1 Then the Lord said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and all your household, for I have seen that you are righteous before me in this generation.
What is man like?
What is God’s perspective of man?
How was God planning to respond?
What is Noah like?
What was Noah to do?
Was Noah sinful? How can we know?
4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment; 5 if he did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly;
9 then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment,
What made Noah godly?
Verses 8 and 18:
God’s Favor— a gift of ”delight in those who honor Him”
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Covenant—A covenant is a “divinely sanctioned commitment.” (Kline)

II. Noah Responds By Faith
II. Noah Responds By Faith
7 By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.
Why did Noah obey?
What did obedience look like for Noah?
What happened because of Noah’s faith?
What do we learn about godliness?
It is a gift from God, for His glory, and man’s good.
What do we learn about God?
He is to be believed, feared, and obeyed.
He is both JUST and BENEVOLENT
17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
Where does faith come from?
Who does faith come from?
How were God’s people saved in the Old Testament?
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
How were they saved in the New Testament?
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
How are they saved TODAY?
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
Genesis 12, 15, 22

16 Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, “And to offsprings,” referring to many, but referring to one, “And to your offspring,” who is Christ.
III. Corruption vs. Righteousness

Looking at Genesis 6:5-7:1...
Character of Mankind:
Character of Noah:
God At Work:
What About Us?
What About Us?
Has mankind changed since the days of Noah? NO
Why was Noah saved from the Flood? Mercy and Grace, through Faith...NOT WORKS
Why is the source of Noah’s righteousness important to us? It’s OURS Too
Why is faith important as God calls us in our lives? It’s necessary for God’s favor and our obedience to Him.
How are we to use Noah as a model for living “in the world, but not of the world?” Noah preached one way of salvation to the ungodly around him...God’s Way. Then, it was a boat to escape the flood. For us, it is Christ, to flee sin and be reconciled to God.
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
