Reconciliation Over Retaliation

BIG IDEA: Wrathful retaliation is sinful but reconciliation reflects Christ the Redeemer.

  • Reconciliation and not retaliation is the goal for believers. Vs.38-42
    • Reconciliation reflects Christ the Redeemer.
    • Reconciliation models godliness for the next generation.
  • The glory of God is the goal and fairness is the fruit (sometimes). Vs.40-41
    • Over focusing on what we cannot control is unwise idol worship.
    • Serving people that have not earned that blessing is an opportunity for spiritual growth.
  • Generous giving (time, talent, & treasure) is mark of those who have been lavished with the grace and mercy of God. Vs.42
    • Realizing the riches of your redemption enables you to give what you have not earned.
    • Generous people do not live in fear but by faith.
  • Love your enemies. Vs.43-48
    • Retaliation does not align with love.
    • Going the extra mile by grace points others to the sufficiency of Christ.
