Transitioning to Becoming Evangelistic

God has richly blessed this congregation.

He has provided us with faithful elders and deacons to help and serve His people. These are tremendous blessings that strengthen the work of this local church.

Now it is time for us to take another major step.

It is time for us to engage more fully in the chief work of our Lord's kingdom—the work of seeking and saving the lost.

· This is not about simply doing more evangelism.

· It is about becoming evangelistic.

Our goal is not merely to schedule more evangelistic activities or occasionally "try evangelistic things." Our desire is for evangelism to become part of who we are as Christians and as a congregation. We want every member to be driven by the urgency of sowing the Seed of the kingdom wherever God opens a door.

Some congregations become known….

· For their singing.

· Others become known for their friendliness.

· Others are recognized for their fellowship meals, gospel meetings, or various activities.

Those things certainly have their place.

But what if our congregation became known as the church that is always sowing the Seed?

What if people throughout our community knew us as a congregation that genuinely loves souls, seeks opportunities to share the gospel, and continually invites others to Christ?

That is the reputation we should desire because evangelism is the very heartbeat of our Lord's mission.

But This Will Only Happen...

When evangelism becomes an urgent and practical priority—not simply something we talk about, but something we live.

Jesus taught, "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness..." (Mat6:33)

Kingdom business must always come first.

And among all the work entrusted to the kingdom, there is none more urgent than bringing lost souls to Christ. Everything else supports that mission.

This means we must continually sow the Seed, trusting God to give the increase (1 Cor 3:6-7).

So once again, our aim is not simply to do more evangelism or try something evangelistic. Our aim is to become evangelistic at our very core!

This requires a transition in our thinking.

We must move from being only concerned with the welfare of our Sunday and Wednesday assemblies to being deeply concerned with the welfare of lost souls, every day of the week.

· Our assemblies are designed to equip the saints.

· Our mission is to reach the lost.

When every member begins looking for opportunities to plant the gospel in conversations, relationships, neighborhoods, workplaces, and homes, we will no longer merely have an evangelism effort…. We will become an evangelistic church!

And when that happens, we will be reflecting the heart of our Savior, who "came to seek and to save the lost" (Lk 19:10).

Let’s Not Attempt To “Do Evangelism”

So let’s not try or attempt something evangelistic, let's become evangelistic!

We are in a unique time within our congregation: Not only do we have the “right pieces in place,” But we have a leadership that is deeply committed to winning souls for Christ! (Countless hours, meetings, discussions)

We cannot let this precious opportunity pass us by—and leave it for the next generation…

Jesus said, “Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest.” -Jn 4:35.

Important Steps To Take

1) We have to believe we can make this happen (Php 4:12-13).

2) We must truly be all in, truly committed (Eph 4:16).

3) We need to pray regularly for God to help us (1 Jn 5:14-15; 1 Thes5:17).

4) We need prayer for support (Eph 3:20-21).

Remember: Everyone can be a Sower, not just limited to the elders, myself or a select few.

Conclusion

Brethren, this may feel like a big transition, but remember—we’re not asking anyone to become someone they’re not. We’re simply striving to become more like Jesus. All we need are willing hearts, open eyes to God’s opportunities, and the courage to plant the Seed.

If we sow faithfully, God will work faithfully. Some seeds will grow quickly, others slowly, and some we may never see bear fruit. Our success isn’t measured by responses, but by our faithfulness to the One who sends us.

So let’s move forward together—with confidence, joy, and hope. The Lord is with us, His gospel remains “the power of God for salvation” (Rom 1:16), and the harvest is still plentiful. May He shape us into a congregation known for loving souls and faithfully sowing the Seed until our Lord returns.
