Romans 5:1–11 ESV

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

When we come into relationship with Christ, we have been brought into the family of God as a child. This means we don’t come as someone still in shackles and victimhood mentality. We come as heirs. We come as sons and daughters to the Most High.

We have been justified by the blood of Jesus Christ and that makes us in right standing with Him. And its not because of anything that we have done, its not some magical formula, it’s our faith in Christ that is the justifying factor.

Romans 5:1 ESV

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

How is one justified by faith? In order to have and understanding about justification through faith, we have to ask what faith is.

Hebrews 11:1 ESV

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

Faith is not doing things in your own power or just believing that everything is fine when the world is burning around you. Faith is trusting that the same God that fulfilled His promise to those in the past is the same God that is alive and active in our lives today.

Not because of our works or trying harder or checking the boxes of our spiritual life, but because we trust in His faithfulness to us.

This is what Paul points to in Romans 5:1

Romans 5:1 ESV

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

We are justified not by our own strength or abilities, but by the finished work of Christ on the cross for us.

Romans 5:2–5 ESV

Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

We don't stop needing faith after we're justified. In many ways, that's where faith begins to deepen. As we continue walking with Christ, we discover that faith isn't just something that saves us; it's something that sustains us.

Paul doesn't promise that life suddenly becomes easy. He actually says the opposite. Trials still come. Suffering still happens. The difference is that suffering is no longer meaningless. The Holy Spirit begins to work through those moments, producing endurance, shaping our character, and strengthening the hope we have in Christ.

We may not always understand what God is doing, but we can trust who He is. The same God who justified us is the same God who walks with us through every trial. Because we belong to Him, we can be confident that He is accomplishing something greater than we can see.

Romans 5:6–8 ESV

For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

And this, these 2 verses are the explanation of the finish work that was done for you and I. That while we were still in our sin and far away from Him, Christ gave His life for us.

Romans 5:9–11 ESV

Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

WHAT A HOPE THAT IS! That we can come before the throne and stand as a child because we have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus and now we are justified and called righteous because of our faith in Him.

I’ll end it with this. Christ is the justifying factor that redeems us. That does not mean that we don’t live and walk out our faith in repentance or deeds, but its because we have faith we are changed and transformed. That topic we will discuss later. But here is the point. We as those who have accepted this gift through faith are not merely just Christians. But we are justified sons and daughters that can come to the throne and call Him “Abba”.
