WHO WILL PICK UP THE BANNER?
**Who Will Pick Up the Banner?** is a patriotic, Christ-centered July 4th sermon from Psalm 60:4 that uses the Civil War color bearer as a picture of spiritual responsibility. Just as soldiers looked to the flag in the smoke and confusion of battle, God has given His people the banner of truth, the gospel, and the cross of Jesus Christ. Through the story of Sergeant William H. Carney, who carried the flag at Fort Wagner and declared, “The dear old flag never touched the ground,” the sermon challenges believers to lift the banner, face the battle, and carry the burden in their generation. Drawing from the Declaration of Independence and quotes from Washington, Adams, and Franklin, the message reminds us that freedom depends upon God, righteousness, morality, and prayer. It honors America’s liberty while pointing higher to Christ, declaring that the flag reminds us freedom has a price, but the cross reminds us salvation has been paid in full.
