THE VALUE OF A VOICE

Series: Uncomfortable Conversations

LIFE APPLICATION: Every life has value because every life is created by God with purpose. Since God knew us before we were born, we must use our voice to defend, encourage, and speak truth on behalf of those whom God has lovingly formed.

Text: Psalm 139:13–16; Jeremiah 1:5

“For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made…” — Psalm 139:13–14

“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee.” — Jeremiah 1:5

Introduction: Some conversations are avoided because they make people uncomfortable.

Few are more avoided — or more urgent — than this one.

It’s about life. About the unborn, the unwanted, the unheard, and the unprotected.

We are surrounded by a culture that has silenced the cry of millions.

But God has not been silent — and neither should His church.

Since 1973, over sixty million lives have been ended by abortion in America alone. That’s not a statistic — that’s a cemetery.

Each number represents a name, a heartbeat, and a future that never had a chance to speak.

We are told to stay out of this discussion — that it’s a political issue. But before it was political, it was biblical. Before it was debated in courts, it was defined in Scripture.

So today’s uncomfortable conversation reminds us: Life is not a choice; life is a creation.

And every creation has a Creator who gives it value, voice, and purpose.

I. THE DIVINE DESIGN OF LIFE!

A. Life Begins with God’s Formation

David declares, “Thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.”

The word possessed means “to create, to establish ownership.”

Before a doctor detected a heartbeat, God was designing a human being.

You weren’t an accident of biology; you were an act of divinity.

You were formed, not fabricated. Designed, not developed by chance.

Every fingerprint, every feature, every future was fashioned by the Father.

Psalm 100:3 declares, “It is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves.”

Science may describe how life develops — but only Scripture defines why life exists.

B. Life is Formed with God’s Fingerprints

David said, “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”

Every cell of your body is a sermon declaring the sovereignty of God.

In that hidden place of the womb, the Artist of eternity painted His masterpiece.

Even the timing of your birth was intentional.

Acts 17:26 says God “hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation.”

He not only designed your body — He designated your birthplace, your background, and your boundaries.

C. Life is Filled with God’s Purpose

Jeremiah 1:5 says, “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee.”

God didn’t just make Jeremiah — He knewhim.

That word means to know intimately, to ordain personally.

Before Jeremiah ever spoke, God had already written his story.

Before his parents knew his name, God had already written his purpose.

Every life has a purpose — and the destruction of life destroys potential.

When a child’s life is ended, a chapter of God’s story goes unwritten.

II. THE DEVAULATION THAT DOMINATES CULTURE!

If God gives life value, then Satan’s strategy is always to devalue it.

A. The Culture of Deception

Our world cloaks sin with slogans:

“My body, my choice.”

“Reproductive rights.”

“Fetal tissue, not a person.”

But what the world defines as a “choice,” the Word defines as a child.

When Eve was deceived in the garden, Satan didn’t deny God outright — he distorted what God said.

That same deception now blinds hearts and hardens consciences.

Isaiah 5:20 again warns: “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil.”

The devil always changes the language before he changes the law.

B. The Culture of Death

From Cain killing Abel to Pharaoh killing infants, Satan has always sought to destroy the image of God in man.

Jesus said in John 10:10, “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.”

Abortion is not a modern phenomenon — it’s an ancient spiritual war.

It is the enemy’s attempt to silence the sound of destiny before it ever breathes.

And yet, while the world dismisses life, God defends it.

Psalm 82:3 commands, “Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.”

When the most defenseless are in danger, the church must be their defender.

C. The Culture of Distraction

The enemy also keeps us silent by distraction.

We argue about politics instead of pleading for people.

We debate about policies while ignoring the power of the pulpit.

When God’s people stop speaking, darkness fills the silence.

We must never forget — to remain silent on sin is to share in it.

Proverbs 31:8 says, “Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.”

God calls us not just to feelcompassion, but to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.

III. THE DECLARATION THAT DEFINES SCRIPTURE!

A. God Speaks for the Unborn

From Genesis to Revelation, God reveals His heart for life.

Genesis 2:7 — God breathed into man the breath of life.

Exodus 20:13 — “Thou shalt not kill.”

Luke 1:41 — The babe leaped in Elisabeth’s womb.

Jeremiah 1:5 — “Before I formed thee, I knew thee.”

In God’s eyes, life begins beforebirth, and continues beyond it.

B. God Sanctifies the Living

1 Thessalonians 5:23 — “The very God of peace sanctify you wholly.”

Life is sacred not because of whatwe can do, but because of who made us.

Whether unborn or elderly, disabled or developing, rich or poor — life has equal worth because it bears the image of God.

Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created man in his own image.”

That means every attack on human life is an attack on divine likeness.

C. God Sent His Son for the Lost

John 3:16 reveals the greatest affirmation of life ever given:

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son.”

Jesus didn’t die for plants, planets, or politics — He died for people.

He didn’t come to condemn the broken but to redeem them.

Even those who have sinned against life can find forgiveness through the Giver of life.

IV. THE DELIVERANCE THAT REQUIRES GRACE!

This conversation isn’t just about guilt — it’s about grace.

A. Grace for the Guilty

The blood of Jesus doesn’t just cleanse certain sins — it cleanses all sin.

1 John 1:9 promises, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins.”

There is forgiveness for the mother who aborted, for the father who abandoned, and for the church that was silent.

God’s grace goes deeper than our guilt.

David was guilty of adultery and murder, but he found mercy.

Paul persecuted Christians, yet became the greatest preacher of Christ.

There is no sin so dark that grace cannot make it white as snow.

B. Grace for the Grieving

Many carry silent pain over this issue — shame, regret, loss.

Hear this clearly: God does not condemn the repentant; He comforts them.

Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart.”

Every life lost is known to God. Every tear shed is seen by God.

And one day, in heaven, every tear will be wiped away by God.

C. Grace for the Generation

We are not only recipients of grace; we are representatives of it.

Titus 2:11–12 reminds us that grace teaches us “to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts.”

Grace doesn’t excuse sin — it empowers holiness.

When grace grips your heart, it will give your voice courage.

You’ll speak, not in anger, but in anointed compassion — calling people from deception to deliverance.

V. THE DUTY THAT DEMANDS OUR VOICE!

If life is valuable to God, it must be vocalized by His people.

A. Speak Up Boldly

Proverbs 31:8–9 — “Open thy mouth for the dumb… open thy mouth, judge righteously.”

The unborn cannot speak, but we can. The elderly often aren’t heard, but we must.

Silence in the face of slaughter is sin in the sight of God.

John the Baptist leaped in the womb at the presence of Jesus.

Even the unborn recognized the unborn Savior — yet our generation denies what heaven already declared.

We cannot claim to be pro-gospel if we are not also pro-life — because the gospel is the story of life conquering death.

B. Stand Firm Biblically

Our conviction must come from the Word, not the world.

Laws may change, but God’s truth never does.

The church doesn’t take its cues from culture; it takes its commands from Christ.

As Paul said in Acts 20:27, “I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.”

Even the parts that make people uncomfortable. Even the ones that might empty a room.

Because it’s better to be faithful to God than fashionable with men.

C. Show Love Practically

Truth without tenderness hardens hearts.

We must not only declare life — we must demonstrate it.

That means:

Supporting adoption and foster care.

Ministering to single mothers.

Partnering with pregnancy resource centers.

Offering hope, not hostility.

The world may see protesters, but God is looking for protectors — people who prove their pro-life stance through compassion in action.

VI. THE DESTINY THAT DEFINES ETERNITY!

A. Life is Eternal in Nature

Ecclesiastes 12:7 says, “The spirit shall return unto God who gave it.”

Life doesn’t end at the grave — it begins with God and continues into eternity.

Every unborn child that dies returns to the God who gave it.

2 Samuel 12:23 reveals David’s confidence: “I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.”

That’s hope — a heavenly reunion with the little ones we’ve lost.

B. Life is Evaluated by God

Romans 14:12 says, “Every one of us shall give account of himself to God.”

Politicians, judges, doctors, and preachers alike will one day answer before the Giver of Life.

When that day comes, may it be said of us, as of the apostles, “They stood for truth and spoke for life.”

C. Life is Exalted in Christ

Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”

He didn’t come to restrict life but to restore it.

Every heartbeat echoes His handiwork. Every breath proclaims His benevolence.

When we defend life, we reflect His very nature.

And one day, when all voices are raised in glory, the redeemed will declare:

“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things.” (Revelation 4:11)

CONCLUSION: The Church Must Speak!

We can no longer whisper what God has shouted.

The sanctity of life is not up for debate — it’s declared in divine revelation.

God says:

I formed you.

I knew you.

I called you.

I love you.

So let the world hear the church say: Every life matters. Every voice matters. Every soul matters to God.

Our mission is clear:

Preach the truth courageously.

Protect the vulnerable compassionately.

Proclaim the gospel consistently.

Invitation

Maybe this message stirred memories or pain.

Friend, grace is still greater than your guilt.

The God who forms life also forgives sin.

If you carry regret from the past, bring it to Jesus.

If you’ve been silent, ask Him for strength to speak.

If you’ve grown weary, ask Him for renewed conviction.

Pray this from your heart:

“Lord, thank You for giving life. Forgive me where I have failed to honor it. Use me to defend the defenseless, to speak truth with grace, and to live as a voice for the voiceless. May my life reflect Your love for every life.”
