The Lexham Bible Dictionary Introduction
Principalities and Powers represent hostile and demonic powers opposed to Christ and the Church
This is no afternoon athletic contest that we’ll walk away from and forget about in a couple of hours. This is for keeps, a life-or-death fight to the finish against the Devil and all his angels.
Principalities and powers represent hostile and demonic powers opposed to Christ and the Church.

Spiritual Warfare The Defeat of the Devil and the Demonic
The key to victory in spiritual warfare is in knowing both what Jesus Christ has done to Satan and what He has done to you. Christians too often live in fear of what they think the devil might do, but can’t, and in ignorance of what they themselves can do, but don’t. Defeat is thus the result of failing to reckon with and act upon the devil’s dethronement and the believer’s enthronement.
Satan is a master of misrepresentation
He is powerful, but not omnipotent. He is intelligent, but not omniscient
He is active, but not omnipresent
3. Satan sets his goal and then utilizes and exploits the most effective means, while avoiding all obstacles, to reach his diabolical end.

Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

V.14…BELT’’’’’’’’’’ TRUTH’’’’’’’ Lincoln points out that the belt served “to fasten clothing securely around the waist [which] made rapid movement easier
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
V 15… Shoe of the Gospel;;;;The gospel is the power of God by which people are set free from Satan’s captivity.
JOHN
Believers must always be ready to proclaim the gospel.
; How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the messenger bringing good news,
are the feet of the messenger bringing good news,
Breaking the news that all’s well, proclaiming good times, announcing salvation
proclaiming good times, announcing salvation,
telling Zion, “Your God reigns!”
This verse does not speak of the spreading of the gospel, for Christians are pictured in vv. 10–16 as standing, not advancing. Instead this refers to a believer’s stability or surefootedness from the gospel which gives him peace so he can stand in the battle BKC.

FAITH 4 ft. long and 2 ft. wide. It was made of two layers of wood glued together and covered first with linen and then with hide. It was then bound on top and bottom with iron
V16 .The shield was the soldier’s primary defense in battle. In the same way, the believer’s trust in God provides protection against the devil and his schemes.

New Living Translation Chapter 5
For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith
1john5;4 For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith
FAITH. All sin comes when the victim falls to Satan’s lies and promises of pleasure, rejecting the better choice of obedience and blessing. flaming arrows
Temptations are likened to the flaming arrows shot by the enemy and quenched by the oil-treated leather shield
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Q: “How do I know the difference between the fiery missiles of the evil one and the sinful activity of my own flesh?”
A: “My own evil desire will probably be all too familiar to me, a predictable pattern I’ve battled with. The HS is also quick to convict me of my own sinfulness. Flaming arrows, on the other hand, come like a shot out of the blue, with a nearly irresistible intensity. With such assaults there is also often confusion and excessive guilt, especially if it was an angry impulse which unleashed its fury on another person” (Tom White, 72

1.From walk to standing
Because of Christ’s victory over the evil powers, believers have courage and strength to resist them.

V. 17a helmet of salvation The assurance of God’s salvation protects the believer just as a helmet protects a soldier in battle
Salvation is a work of the Holy Spirit in a person’s life
Protect the mind with the assurance that God has indeed saved and given eternal life to those who believe in Christ.
Satan knows he can gain a major strategical advantage over us if he can sow the seeds of doubt in our minds concerning our relationship with God.
The principal battleground in spiritual warfare is in the mind.
MIND the faculty of consciousness and thought.

V 17 b....SWORD; Satan not only launches fiery missiles from afar, he also moves in close for hand-to-band combat!
R om 10.17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires
; Does not my word burn like fire?”
says the Lord.
“Is it not like a mighty hammer
that smashes a rock to pieces?
In this way, he disarmed* the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross ;15.
It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
matt 10.19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.
V 18“be on the alert” focuses on the manner
“all perseverance” focuses on the persistence
praying at all times Prayer should not be an afterthought for believers, but rather their primary source of strength.
