Romans 15:13 (NASB95)

13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

-We need to walk and express and exude this hope. It is a direct combatant to the hopelessness of the people who need our ministry

-Do a comparison of Hope (biblical) and despair that people carry into our centers. Both are drawing from an expectation of a predicted future!

-Definition of Hope: eagerly wait with perseverance/ a confident expectation of the future

-Me; This ‘For in hope we have been saved,’ is our future redemption of our physical bodies and of the earth. We are saved now, but there is a completion of our salvation that happens in the future.

When the Holy Spirit fills us with hope, this wonderful anticipation ushers in joy and peace too1, creating a unified spiritual experience rather than isolated emotions.

The passage also suggests hope has a communal dimension. When God pours joy and peace into believers, they overflow with hope in ways that are noticeable to others, spurring them toward belief in God3. This makes hope not just a personal comfort but a witness to God’s faithfulness and a catalyst for others’ faith.

Ultimately, Romans 15:13 presents hope as God’s gift to those who believe—a Spirit-empowered confidence that displaces fear and doubt, overflows into community, and reflects the character of the God who is its source.
