Warning for Christians
Text: Proverbs 5:11-13; 21-23
Introduction:
Again just wanting to say what a priviledge we have to be able to live in the greatest country on earth. We are blessed and we need to thank the Lord every day for the blessings of being in such a great nation, but as was mentioned this morning we need to understand how we got here.
America is in the place that she is in because there were some men/woman who came before us and founded this nation upon God!
Without God this nation would be nothing. We were founded on the motto “One nation under God” We say it in our pledge. Which has since been lost a bit in our society.
"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all"
Made by a Baptist Minister, Francis Bellamy, in 1892.
In 1942 Congress formally recognized the pledge into the U.S. Flag Code. Prior to World War II, it was accompanied by the "Bellamy salute" (extending the right arm toward the flag), which was replaced by the hand-over-heart gesture to avoid similarities to the Nazi salute
In 1954 In response to the Cold War, President Dwight Eisenhower signed legislation to include the phrase "under God" into the pledge.
Words and meanings
Allegiance: A promise of loyalty and faithfulness to the United States.
Republic: A system of government where the people elect representatives to lead.
Indivisible: The country is a single, united entity that cannot be broken apart.
Liberty and Justice for all: A promise of freedom and fair treatment for every individual
We are not just priviledged to be in America, but we are priviledged to be able to have the Holy Spirit living in our hearts today, and Christ indwelling the believer. But this evening, I would like to take a quick look at some aspects surrounding these verses.
As part of the introduction, I would like to say if we are going to remain a country that is one nation under God it is going to start with us Christians.
We value many things in this life, but something that many do not value, but should is these two things. Instruction and reproof.
Outline:
From God
The Bible
Needs to be valued!
This is our instruction in life! Have you ever had instructions and you did not find them important. How about a receipe that you did not follow completely.
We have all received instructions from God and it ought to be Followed and cherished.
The Church
The Preacher
It will do you well to hear the preaching of Gods word. Not just the parts you want to hear, but the aspects of the messages that you do not like as well.
Those are probably the most needed parts of the message
The Teachers
These are important for the instructing of the saints. Sunday School, Wednesday night Bible Study
Learn to love the teaching of God’s word, because what you are really learning to love is the instruction of God. We ought not want to get to the end of our lives and say “How have I hated instruciton”
From Others
This is a very hard aspect to accept.
You do not know everything! You never have and you never will. There are some who know more than you and there are some who do not know more, but they know other things than you. Some are gifted in different ways than you are and it would do you well to listen.
God has given us one mouth and 2 ears so we should listen twice as much as you talk. Those that are always willing to jump right into a conversation and give their two cents tell me a few things. They aren’t very wise. Think of Peter.
You should not be afraid to say your opinion on some matter, but at the same time you should be very picky in the times in which you do give that opinion.
Love it when you can learn from some one elses instruction and reproof.
As a nation we were given some very great instruction from those that have come before us, and some we are still holding to, but alot of other things we are not holding to…we need to learn from the mistakes of those that have come before us and sure up those weak points.
Sin destorys
Your sin
Vs 22-23
Vs 23 says that they die without instruciton; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
Stay away from sin
