Our Father in heaven,
your name be honored as holy.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.

Story where someone tried to do it themselves but should have asked for help
2025
Connecticut man , owens, who took his dog into the bathroom, maybe to get him water, but the dog became locked in. There were automatic locks.
So what did the man do? What would you do in that situation?
Well, the building had a chimney, so my man tried to santa claus his way down the chimney to rescue the dog. He got stuck for hours and they had to destroy the chimney to the tune of 10-15k dollars to get him out. All he had to do was ask for help. Seemed like a good idea at the time.
When it comes to temptation- we have the same issue. We know that we are weak, we know that we have a tendancy to fail, but no matter how many times we fail, the next time we think - “I got it, I got it”

I got this - you don’t got this

9 “Therefore, you should pray like this:
Our Father in heaven,
your name be honored as holy.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And do not bring us into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.
But the first thing is what is temptation?
[Temptation is anything that TRIGGERS us to desire sin]
Temptation happens when the world, the flesh or the devil tries to woo our heart from God to sin
Now what’s the big deal about sin? I’m a christian why do I need to be worried about this?
[Sin always builds toward DESTRUCTION]
God knows what’s best for us - Look, you can go to heaven but still have a destroyed job, destroyed reputation, destroyed marriage, destroyed relationship with your kids, destroyed friendships, destroyed finances, destroyed health, destroyed mental health, destroyed faith.
God has given you so many great gifts, his plan is for you to use them for his glory, to live in peace, at least inner peace. God has a plan for your life, but so does the devil
So how does temptation come at us? Well, it’s different for different people
[Temptation is TAILORED for you.]
Now, sometimes, we think of it as the desire for sin. But temptation can be different for different people.
Oreo vs frosted cookies
Sometimes it’s a situation - there are situations that pressure your heart towards sin. - if I can lie may way out of this that will be good.
Sometimes its a person - lust, encourages you towards sin.
Sometimes it’s a thing - like money
Know what your oreo is - [Know what your TRIGGERS are.]
Maybe your trigger is gossip, you hear some juicy tidbit and you think, man I shouldn’t do this, i shouldn’t engage, and then you think, Nah I got this and then jump right in.
Everyone knows that social media has increased our hate for one another so much so that it’s destroyed families and marriages now. They developed it. And then we go on there and we see something, and we think, I shouldn’t do this, but then you think Nah, I got this and jump right in - but you don’t got it.
We have to address sexual sin too I think because it’s everywhere. Pornography has become pervasive, in our shows, on the internet, everywhere. Erotica books, AI, I mean it’s everywhere
And so many people go into that situation thinking “I got this” Sure, I can text this old flame. Sure I can watch this. Sure I can read this. It’s only a little.
It is out to destroy you. In fact, it can become so powerful in our lives that God tells us to flee from it.
Here’s the problem, we mess up, we don’t like that we mess up, we feel shame. So we hide it. But we don’t deal with it. We don’t kill the sin. We don’t grow. We stay weak. Then we fall again. and again and again.
Fraud - starts small.
The enemy wants us to keep it in the dark.
So what do we do with the shame and the fear and all that. We talk to God.
[Talk to God about our WEAKNESS]
So what this part of the Lord’s prayer invites us into is to talk to God about where we are weak.
It’s not surprising to God. But you should talk to God about it.
Father, I’m feeling pretty weak today
or I am feeling too strong today, don’t let me be blind.
Maybe you are about to head into a situation that you know will be difficult - “I’m about to see my ex today…”
You know you are weak.
It breaks us out of our self justifying cycle and allows us to really see God in it. We bring it to him.
Look, don’t jump down the chimney, ask for help!
He remembers that we are dust even when we don’t.
[Jesus UNDERSTANDS our struggles.]
Look at Hebrews 4:15-16
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin. 16 Therefore, let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in time of need.
Do you have experience with it Goodwill Hunting robin williams
There was a time when Jesus was out in the wilderness for 40 days without food. By that point even a frosted sugar cookie is going to start looking good. There was the external draw, there was every reason why he should want to make food
Or think about his temptation to hate. They were constantly mistreating him. We talk about the pharisees and we don’t like them because of how they treated Jesus. He had an external reason to hate. But he didn’t hate them. He loved them.
Jesus had the temptations that we have, so he knows the difficulty. He knows the weakness of the human body. How fragile we are.
So we don’t have to be embarrassed to go to him.
But doesn’t just sympathize with us.
Now we all have friends who can sympathize with us. Nicaraguan mechanics. Everyone sympathizes and that’s nice. But you know what’s better than someone who has sympathy?
Someone with sympathy AND solutions.
[Jesus provides sympathy and SOLUTIONS]
He can actually do something about it.
5 For if we have been united with him in the likeness of his death, we will certainly also be in the likeness of his resurrection. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be rendered powerless so that we may no longer be enslaved to sin, 7 since a person who has died is freed from sin.
11 So, you too consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.
12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, so that you obey its desires.
{ABC’s of repentence}
So we are united to him in his death and in his resurrection
[The enemy tries to convince us that sin is IMPOSSIBLE to avoid.]
So let’s talk to God about what we are going through.
IF YOU ARE NOT A CHRISTIAN
We don’t have to do this alone
Pray also for the church
….
Pray that we would walk alongside each other as we face temptations.
You need other christians in your life. You need christians friends.
That we help each other. Talk to each of us.
Lord’s Supper:
Lord’s Supper:
On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, and said, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
Benediction:
Benediction:
The LORD bless you and keep you;
the LORD makes his face shine upon you and be gracious to you:
The LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
