The Book of Acts

Chapter 1

40 days in Scripture emerges from its recurring association with critical Spiritual Transitions. Examples: Moments of Testing, purification, judgement or preparation before encountering God’s will. Acts 1: 3

Acts 1:5 “for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.””

John baptized with water meaning he was baptizing people for repentance. Jesus said baptized with the Holy Spirit meaning transformation. Another way to look at it is water baptism symbolizes outward commitment to Christ. Spirit Baptism represents an inward transformation.

Water: A valuable resource in the ancient world, a source of power and fear, a means of deliverance and punishment, and a vital element in religious worship.
