Gaining wisdom from parents

Proverbs 1:8-9

I know that taking instruction from parents isn’t very popular amongst teenagers but ignoring wisdom and instruction from your parents especially Godly parents causes all sorts of problems that you would have never saw coming and it also opens you up to Satan and all his temptations.

You may have herd pastors say recently how the family is under attack by Satan.

A great way for Satan to attack a family is through a Christian’s children.

Rebellious children can up end a home and even pit mother against father and vice versus.

So believe it or not you play a role in whether you have a God fearing peaceful home or one that is open to attack.

Make an effort not to take part in that. Take part in the Holiness and Sanctity in your home. That is what God has intended.

God deemed taking instruction and wisdom from parents so crucial and important that he put that in the ten commandments.

Think about that.

He put those instructions in with do not murder and do not steal. Out of all the things God could have put in the ten commandments on what we shouldn’t do he chose that and we need to make it more of a priority.

Peer pressure

Proverbs 1:10-19

These 10 verses are warning us of something that I am sure you all face quite often at this stage in your life.

Peer pressure

In this passages it illustrates and murder and robbery. But peer pressure today can be as simple as someone wanting you to try drugs or alcohol or sex outside of marriage, porn, or just general mischief. All of these lead to destruction.

For me and my generation of the people I went to school with the primary pressure was alcohol. It was seen as cool and fun. And I would be lying if i told you I never had fun getting drunk on alcohol. If it wasn’t fun or pleasurable Satan wouldn’t be able to tempt us with it.

But what Satan doesn’t tell you about is the years it robs from you. Your younger years should be the most productive, adventurous, and interesting of your whole life.

But instead of thinking about my future, exploring the world, exploring hobbies, or getting things in order for having a family one day, I would spend every weekend drinking with friends. And that is time I can never get back.

We have to start looking at sin and temptation as a robber and a thief.

Because it is. Not only does it rob us of a relationship with Jesus it robs us of the short time that we are here on this earth.

So when someone tries to convince you or tempt you. Think about that. Ask yourself what will this rob me of.

And when people do try to pressure you into these situations don’t underestimate there intentions.

Verse 17 “Indeed, it is useless to spread a baited net in the sight of any bird”

If a bird or the thing you are trying to trap see’s you setting the trap that would be kind of pointless right?

This verse is telling us how people could even make an elaborate plan to tempt or trick us into something and it not be random but premeditated.

We have to remain rooted in Christ and reject any sin that tries to enter our life

You have been warned

Proverbs 1:20-29

Some scholars say these verses are wisdom speaking in first person and some say this is the language of the Son of God under the name of Wisdom they reference Luke 11:49 “Therefore also the Wisdom of God said, ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute,’”

Regardless of the view what is clear is that if we become naive or simple minded and turn our backs to knowledge and wisdom we have no excuse.

Verse 20 says wisdom shouts in the streets, meaning wisdom is everywhere. Not just in our private homes but in the “streets” which implies in the public.

Wisdom isn’t locked away under in a safe or vault.

You know in our society we have access to more knowledge, information, and wisdom than any King or prophet that has ever lived.

Our problem is we have so much information that not only can we not process it all but it’s becoming hard to disseminate what is wisdom and what is folly.

We have to always match up any information or wisdom we find with God to know that we are not being mislead.

Lets continue reading verses 30-33

You know If verse 31 doesn't put the Fear of God in you I don’t know what will.

Proverbs 1:31 “therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way, and have their fill of their own devices.”

This verse is saying God is giving them up to their own wickedness. At this point they are totally irrelevant to God and his Kingdom.

Romans 1:24–28 “Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.”

You know I don’t know how far gone someone has to be for God to give them up to their sin but I can tell you that you shouldn’t be naive enough to think that this is just some story and that this could never be you if you don’t accept Jesus and listen to His instructions.

I could never know for sure but when I look at this world, our country specifically, it seems as that we have a whole lot of debased minds.

A whole lot of people that are so far gone that logic, reasoning and God’s wisdom might as well be galaxies and universes away.

Would you like that good news?

The good news is in verse 33

All we have to do is listen to the Lord and his instructions and we can live securely at peace.

Pretty simple right.

Remember how I said we humans have trouble with simple. We like it complicated.

I’ve often wondered if God made being in a relationship with Him more complicated would their be more participation lol

But you know He didn’t He made it simple.

He created us, gave us free will, knowing we would reject Him, Loved us anyway, sent His Son to die on the cross, we still reject Him, and yet He still pursues us, his mercy, his grace and his wisdom pursues us.
