Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Three commands that help the church pursue unity as we live for Christ.

The Context:

church = elect holy and beloved

believers are the elect of God

every new testament author uses the word elect

Col 1:12 God has qualified us

Believers to be holy

God has shown amazing love towards the believers

The Commands: (3 commands)

I. Clothe yourself with these characteristics (12-14)

command is to clothe

compassion

kindness

humility

gentleness

patience

Do I have compassion for others

2 Corinthians 1

mercies = compassion

in the same way that God has been compassionate

kindness is what is going what is helpful for others

Titus 3:7

Romans 2:4

Humility

address our own heart

think to much of self

think of ourself to often

interest of others

Gentleness

Not being over impressed with yourself

Patience
