9 “Therefore, you should pray like this:

12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And do not bring us into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.
The devil = just the devil and the demons since he is the general.
Who is the devil? He was an angel who rebelled against God and was cast out of heaven and in the end he is going to be cast into the lake of fire. He along with other fallen angels, that we call demons, do work on the earth and torment people.
One problem is thinking that everything’s the devil, the other error, equally wrong, is that nothing is the devil
[The devil isn’t EVERYTHING]
There’s errors we can fall into - first, everything’s the devil - then we don’t use the ordinary tools god has given us so that we can grow in our faith. Becoming more like Christ, sanctification, defeating our sins, we can neglect that, because we think it’s all about rebuking, praying against the devil, reading bible, self control, going to church small compared the battle - thats the way we grow in christ.
[But the devil isn’t NOTHING]
Nothing’s the devil- and so then every temptation, every wild thought, is only our problem and we never pray to ask God for his power to defeat the devils’ temptations in our lives.
It can get scary to allot of people but [Christians need to be AWARE not AFRAID of the Devil.]
It’s something that has caused a lot of confusion and it’s meant to cause confusion because the devil works through imitation.
[The devil works through imitating God’s POWER]
And his imitation works through imitating God through signs and power and in imitating you to manipulate you into sin. So, let’s jump into it.
First let’s talk about Satan as an imitator of God’s power
As christians we are filled with the Holy Spirit.
The devil and demons have imitated this through their own possessions. What we see in the ministry of Jesus is that most of these possessions don’t involve power, they are tormenting people.
Sometimes though, there seems to be some sort of power to it.
16 Once, as we were on our way to prayer, a slave girl met us who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She made a large profit for her owners by fortune-telling.

Demonizing on a spectrum
It still happens though and we need to be careful not to fool around with the occult. Things like ouije boards, fortune telling, all of that is really dark stuff that Christians shouldn’t be messing with.
If you have a past with witch craft and the occult and want special prayer for that, please let me know. I won’t be upset at you or think less of you. It’s just a thing that has happened in a lot of people’s lives.
The other form of imitation is with our thoughts and temptation.

The pattern of the New Testament shifts by the epistles the emphasis is that to temptation and that’s how must of us will deal with these things on regular basis
The primary way you will deal with the devil regularly is him laying eggs in your mind - laying eggs of temptations and thoughts.
2 Now when it was time for supper, the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas, Simon Iscariot’s son, to betray him.
3 “Ananias,” Peter asked, “why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the proceeds of the land?
1 Satan rose up against Israel and incited David to count the people of Israel.
If you are every going around and like boom! You have some awful thought and you are like, where did that come from.
Sometimes, you fight it, but sometimes, you are like: Hmm, this isn’t such a bad idea. And so we take the egg laid by the devil and we nurture it, we feed it, we cherish it and allow it to grow in our hearts and in our minds.
[Don’t ADOPT the devil’s thoughts]
There is a real fight.
The immitation is to have us believe lies: fortune
The devil will lay an egg of temtpation, some horrible thought and then convince you that it’s thought. THat’s your baby bird. Then he will tell, since you had that thought - you dirty, unloved, rejected God. Maybe you act on the thought and then you say, I can’t believe it - I’m so broken. And the devil yes you are and there’s nothing you can do about it.
Sometimes, we become victims of the devils’ actions, he puts the bad thoughts in someone else, and they go out and they harm you, maybe as child as and adult, and then devil lays his egg - you deserved it. THis happened you because you are ugly, unloved, uncared for. And we hold on to that thought, we hatch it in our minds, and we nurse it as if it’s our baby bird.
That’s probably the bigger way that the enemy attacks. Oh so subtle. So subtle we think its our idea.
we need to be aware so that we ask God to deliver us from those attacks.
That’s the imitation, it’s not the voice of God. What does God say to you:
4 But when the kindness of God our Savior and his love for mankind appeared, 5 he saved us—not by works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy—through the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit. 6 He poured out his Spirit on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior 7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we may become heirs with the hope of eternal life.
He loved us. I want you to say this out loud “He loves me” “He saved me” The lie is I’m un loved the truth is He loves me “I’m not unloved - He loves me”
The lie is, I’m defeated the truth is “I’m not defeated - He saved me”
the lie is “I’m dirty” the truth is “I’m not dirty - He washed me”
“I’m not my past - I’m made new”
You have been justified by his grace and made heir with hope of eternal life - that’s that’s the truth

Pray for the church
The enemy is going to be attacking. He is going to attack our church. So pray for us. He’s going to attack me - because I’m the pastor so pray for me. He is going to attack your community group leaders, your discipleship group leaders, Rafael the worship leader, he wants to take us. So pray for the leaders.
But your a church planter too, so he’s going to attack you as well. He is attacking us all. So let’s make an effort to pray deliver us from the evil one, together.
