Introduction:
1. The last time we were together we looked at Judas going to betray Jesus and how Jesus knew this was going to happen. It did not mess up his plan, it did not stop what he had in mind rather, Jesus used Judas’ disobedience and sin for his purposes before the foundation of the world.

I. Jesus Inaugurates the New Covenant (Verses 22-25)

This new covenant is prophesied about in
Jeremiah 31:31–34 ““Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, not like the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them,” declares the Lord. “But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares the Lord, “I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. “They will not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares the Lord, “for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.””
Hebrews 9:19–28 “For when every commandment had been spoken by Moses to all the people according to the Law, he took the blood of the calves and the goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, saying, “This is the blood of the covenant which God commanded you.” And in the same way he sprinkled both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry with the blood. And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. Therefore it was necessary for the copies of the things in the heavens to be cleansed with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; nor was it that He would offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the holy place year by year with blood that is not his own. Otherwise, He would have needed to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now once at the consummation of the ages He has been manifested to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment, so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him.”
Luke 22:19–20 “And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood.”
Matthew 26:26–28 “While they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and after a blessing, He broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.”
1 Corinthians 15:3–4 “For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,”
This covenant is final and permanent, and God is going to give us a new heart
Ezekiel 36:26–27 ““Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. “I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances.”
Deuteronomy 30:6 ““Moreover the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, so that you may live.”
God is through this new covenant by his Holy Spirit gives people a heart to know him enabling them to return to God with all their heart and the law will be on their hearts.
Communion Is Not Salvific
Communion is not the actual body and blood of Jesus
Communion is Unifying
Communion is something we should do regularly to remember and proclaim the Lord’s death
Communion is Eschatologically Hopeful

II. Jesus Knows the Disciples Will Fall Away

(Verse 27-30)

Why would the disciples fall away, betray, deny, and sin against Jesus? It was prophesized that they would do so.
Zechariah 13:7 ““Awake, O sword, against My Shepherd, And against the man, My Associate,” Declares the Lord of hosts. “Strike the Shepherd that the sheep may be scattered; And I will turn My hand against the little ones.”
same thing but in Mark’s Gospel Jesus said “I will strike the shepherd” pointing to the fact that God is yet again in control of everything going on and it is not by accident or coincidence but rather it is his plan from the beginning. Also point to the fact that Jesus gave his life rather than it was taken away from him.

III. The Disciples Deny Jesus’ Foreknowledge (Verse 29-31)

Please do not do what the disciples did here. They thought they knew better than God Almighty did. Please do not put yourself in their shoes so to speak. Here is what i don’t think we understand about Judas betraying Jesus, the denial of peter and the other disciples or the falling away of the other disciples, sometimes we can go oh well i wouldn’t have done that how dumb can the disciples be i mean geez how could they not see this? We think that the sin in us is different than the sin in them. You do realize that the worst sinners ever in human history so you can say Jeffery Dammer, Ted Bundy, Adolf Hitler, Osama Bin Laden, those who are for killing 45.1 million babies, the same evil and sinful nature that they have, that same nature is inside of you. have you murdered millions of babies or raped people or pulled babies apart limb from limb? no hopefully not.
APP: please do not ever get in a position where you say that you know better than God does. When you say that you might’ve just become the most unintelligent, prideful, sinful human being on the planet in my opinion. Like if you say you know better than God who do you think you are? Well you think that you are God or that you have more of something that God doesn’t have.

Conclusion:       Lord’s Supper

1 Corinthians 11:23–29 “For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same way He took the cup also after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes. Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly.”
