Although we can't physically see it, there is an underlying spiritual reality present. And in this world, there is both good and perfect reality, an eternal life with God as well as a dark and evil reality (and we see reflections and shadows of that in our world and daily lives). This dark and evil spiritual reality threatens to overwhelm us (our faith) like an enemy army. But if put on the armour God provides we will be able to stand our ground and stay connected to the good and perfect reality. But this is a spiritual battle and so involves spiritual defences of truth, righteousness, peace, faith/trust, God's word and salvation. And it requires the spiritual training of prayer.
