John 6:60–63 ESV
60 When many of his disciples heard it, they said, “This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?” 61 But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples were grumbling about this, said to them, “Do you take offense at this? 62 Then what if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? 63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

Message: Get Some HELP

…..From the Flesh to the Spirit

Key Verse: "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all."John 6:63
"Without the Spirit of God, we can do nothing. We are as ships without wind, branches without sap, and coals without fire. - Spurgeon
Big Idea: The life God calls us to cannot be lived by human effort—it can only be lived through the Holy Spirit.

1. The Flesh Cannot Produce Spiritual Life

John 6:63; Romans 8:5–8
Romans 8:5–8 ESV
5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. 6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. 8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
Analogy of the Leaf Blower and the battery.
What happens when this leaf blower is used without the battery?
You kind of look like a fool
What happens though when its fully charged? all you gotta do is just stand there
John 6:63 ESV
63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.
John 6:63 MSG
63 The Spirit can make life. Sheer muscle and willpower don’t make anything happen. Every word I’ve spoken to you is a Spirit-word, and so it is life-making.
"The flesh is no help at all."
Get some help….
Why c ant i live this life.
why cant i get to where i wanna go
whats holding me back?
The flesh represents our human nature apart from God's Spirit. No amount of discipline, morality, or determination can produce the life God desires.
Truths to emphasize:
Rules can't change the heart.
Religion can't save us.
Self-effort always falls short.
THE LEAF BLOWER IS ONLY GOOD TO GO WITH THE POWER ATTACHED TO IT. THE CHRISTIAN LIFE IS NO DIFFERENT.
Want to over come?
The spirit gives life, the flesh is no help at all.
Application: Ask yourself: Where am I relying on my own strength instead of God's?

2. The Spirit Gives Us New Life

Romans 8:9–11; Ezekiel 36:26–27
Ezekiel 36:26–27 ESV
26 And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.
When you have the spirit - things just happen automatically
What do i mean?
you cant help but see things differently
feel differently about a situation
want to go in the direction of God and Gods will.
Why is that? Its because you have been marked by the spirit of God. and you are now different. We have a hard time with this sometimes because of the shame, the guilt the struggle within our mortal bodies
When your new, your new.
You make go back and behave according to the flesh sometimes- but listen: doesnt change the fact that your new.
Revelation 21:5 ESV
5 And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
Romans 8:9–11 ESV
9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. 10 But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
When we trust Christ, the Holy Spirit doesn't simply improve us—He makes us new.
Truths to emphasize:
New identity.
New desires.
New power.

The Spirit doesn't just forgive your past; He transforms your future.

Application: Stop trying to "fix yourself." Begin abiding in Christ and depending on the Spirit.
Ask the holy spirit - come and transform me
and he will
(people dont take this step because they are terrified that he actually will - you have to walk by faith and not sight).

3. LIFE IN THE SPIRIT IS A DAILY DECISION

THE “SPIRIT-LIFE” IS A DAILY CHOICE

Walking in the Spirit Is a Daily Choice

Romans 8:12–14; Galatians 5:16
Receiving the Spirit is a one-time event at salvation, but walking with Him is a daily decision.
Walking with the Spirit means:
Listening to His voice.
Obeying His promptings.
Surrendering your plans.
Depending on His strength.
Illustration: Walking is a series of small, consistent steps. You don't leap five miles at once. Likewise, a Spirit-filled life is built one act of obedience at a time.
Application Questions:
What area of your life have you been trying to control?
Where is the Holy Spirit inviting you to trust Him today?
What is one step of obedience you can take this week?

Conclusion

The Christian life isn't about becoming a better version of yourself. It's about becoming a new creation through the power of the Holy Spirit.
"The Spirit gives life; the flesh is no help at all." (John 6:63)
Challenge: Don't leave today relying on your own strength. Surrender every area of your life to the Holy Spirit and ask Him to do what your flesh never could.
A fitting closing prayer would invite the congregation to:
Repent of self-reliance.
Thank God for the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Ask for fresh dependence on His power every day.
