2 Corinthians 4:6 “6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
This is the treasure that Paul says we carry in clay jars,
the treasure that we are meant to proclaim to the world
He outlines many of the ways that we may suffer for the sake of the Gospel,
but for each affliction he adds
the assurance that Christ prevails.
He goes on
to urge us to proclaim the mission
I believed, and so I spoke
and so we also speak
confident that God will raise us
as he raised Christ.
Sometimes, I think, …
We focus too much on the crock, and not on the treasure we contain, namely,
the light of Christ and the glory of God
entrusted to us to be shared as widely as we can.
Or we focus so much on the gracious gift of God and what it means for us
that we forget that it is given to us to be shared.
The fact that we are fragile vessels reminds us that
the surpassing power belongs to God, and not to us.
