Battle-ready believers depend upon Christ, recognize the enemy’s schemes, and refuse to turn people into enemies.

OPENING — SPIRITUAL WARFARE ON A TUESDAY

TRIGGERS: offense replayed  •  secret temptation  •  lie feels true  •  relationship dividing  •  prayer crowded out

MARINE / INTELLIGENCE: Who is the enemy?  How does he operate?  What is his objective?  Who is not the enemy?

1. KNOW WHERE YOUR STRENGTH COMES FROM

“Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.”

DEFINE: real + personal  •  created + fallen  •  deceiver / tempter / accuser  •  powerful but limited  •  active, not sovereign  •  defeated; awaiting judgment

BOOK CONNECTION: Eph. 1:19–21 → Christ above every principality and power. Eph. 6:12 → those powers oppose believers.

“The powers confronting us in Ephesians 6 are already beneath the Christ revealed in Ephesians 1.”

• TWO ERRORS — dismiss him (“no battle”) / obsess over him (“behind everything”).

“We are not called to be devil-conscious; we are called to be Christ-dependent and spiritually alert.”

PERSONAL / SOFT — “I can look strong before people while running empty before God. Public confidence cannot replace private dependence.”

ASK — “Are you living spiritually unaware—or spiritually afraid?” [SCAN L–C–R]

TRANSITION — “Paul moves from the Lord’s power to the enemy’s schemes.”

2. KNOW HOW YOUR ENEMY FIGHTS

“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

WILES = methods, schemes, calculated strategies.  “The enemy does not have to overpower you if he can deceive you.”

• DECEPTION — “God cannot be trusted.” Feelings or culture replace God’s Word.

• TEMPTATION — “This will satisfy you.” Sin is relief now; the price is hidden.

• ACCUSATION — “God is finished with you.” Conviction brings sin to light; accusation drives us to hide.

SATAN is the accuser of the brethren

• DIVISION — “That person is your enemy.” Hurt → suspicion → bitterness → hostility.

• DISTRACTION — “You can seek God later.” Noise, screens, and busyness displace prayer and obedience.

FAIR OBJECTION — Not every bad day is a direct attack. Scripture identifies the world, the flesh, and the devil. The source may be unclear; the direction is not: away from truth, holiness, grace, community, prayer, and witness.

ASK SLOWLY — “Which tactic has marked your week—deception, temptation, accusation, division, or distraction?” [PAUSE AFTER EACH]

“You cannot resist a scheme you refuse to recognize.”

TRANSITION / MOVE LEFT — “The enemy’s greatest misdirection is convincing us to aim our strength at people.”

3. KNOW WHO YOUR ENEMY IS

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood…”

EXEGETICAL TRIGGERS: wrestle = close, strenuous conflict  •  not flesh and blood = people are not the ultimate enemy  •  principalities / powers = organized spiritual wickedness  •  seriousness, not speculation

“The enemy’s strategy is to take a spiritual battle and turn it into a personal feud.”

ACCOUNTABILITY: People may require confrontation, correction, boundaries, discipline, or legal accountability—never hatred, revenge, cruelty, or dehumanization.

“You can hold someone accountable without surrendering your heart to bitterness.”

Paul show us who the enemy is.

Jesus shows us how to respond when we know the difference.

1 PETER 2:20–25 — JESUS FOUGHT THE REAL BATTLE

1 PETER 2:20–25 (NKJV)  20 For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God.  21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:  22 “Who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth”;  23 who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously;  24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.  25 For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

• REVILED — did not revile in return.

• SUFFERED — did not threaten.

• ENTRUSTED — committed Himself to the righteous Judge.

• BORE OUR SINS — remained committed to the rescue mission.

“Jesus refused the wrong battle so He could win the real battle.”

“Jesus did not come to destroy flesh and blood. He came to rescue flesh and blood.”

ASK QUIETLY — “Whose face came to your mind?” [PAUSE — DO NOT RESCUE THE SILENCE]
