Mark Chapter 4

The Lion’s Gospel:

Introduction:

Today I want to spend some time and talk about something that changed the world: Subway Sandwhiches

This restaurant did something that no others were really doing at the time; they were letting you build your sandwhich.

What kind of bread, meat, cheese, toppings, toasted or not toasted, six-inch or footlong?

And guess what y’all America loooooved it.

We had a meal that we had total control over, and it was made exactly how we wanted

Control is a good thing:

We want to have control over situations, things, and how we respond to people and how they respond to us.

If you had the option, would you have control over, “weather” “time for yourself” or “where you were born” “ one chore you wouldn’t have to do again”

Some things are simply out of our control

Most pastors I know are bald

No matter how hard I try to spin it, a footlong meatball marinia with all the fix ins is probably not a health food

Sickness, depression, how much gasoline costs

What do we do?

We are going to be in the Gospel of Mark Chapter 4, tonight. “The Lion’s Gospel”

And we are going to meet Jesus and His disciples in a place that they had no control over. If you have your Bibles, turn to the last part of Mark 4

Mark 4:35–41 NIV

That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

Can you even imagine?

How do you retell this story? Do you talk about the boat, the almost dying part, or Jesus calming the storm with a voice?

“Why did Jesus let the storm come up?”

Why do you think the disciples woke up Jesus?

Something I want to point out here

The disciples hadn’t done anything wrong- trials, regardless of who you are or what you do

There are some moments in our life that are not punishments, but theyre scary and out of our control:

In the Lion’s Gospel, we are reminded that Christ is powerful over those moments as well.

Christ rebuked, scolds, and calls the winds and just like the Spirit of God at the very beginning at our story
