There Is A Cure

2 Kings 5:1-14; Acts 2:38

INTRODUCTION:

2 Kings 5:1-14

In second kings 5:1-14 we begin reading of a man by the name of Naaman, this was a great man, he was the captain of the host of the king of Syria. He is described as an honorable and mighty individual.

But Naaman had a problem, this great commander, this mighty and honorable man was a leper.

There was no cure for leprosy, in this day to have leprosy would have essentially been a death sentence.

Naaman’s wife, however, had a maid who was a captive from Israel, a Jewish girl.

And she tells Naaman's wife about one in Israel who could heal Naaman.

Naaman would end up travelling to Samaria where Elisha the prophet dwelt, arrive at the door of the prophet and he would be told that in order to be clean he needed to dip in the Jordan 7 times.

Naaman did not like the answer from Elisha, he refused to dip in the Jordan and he left angry.

Naaman needed help, he was unclean but he refused help from the Lord’s prophet because of his pride.

After his servants reasoned with him Naaman did do as he was told and Vs. 14 he was made clean and his flesh was like that of a little child.

Friends and Brethren there is a disease that all have been infected with, there is no doctor on this earth that has the cure, and the result is death.

Rom 3:23

Every individual has become infected by this problem of sin.

But like Naaman, we are not without hope, there is a God in Heaven who holds the cure for sin.

When those gathered on the day of Pentecost in Acts two asked Peter “What must I do to be saved?”

how do I rid myself of this disease, how can I be made clean, he answered in Vs. 38

Acts 2:38 “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”

We have been given the cure for sin and death, but in order to receive that cure we must follow the instructions God gave us.

By hearing His word (Romans 10:17 “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” )

By believing those things we have heard (John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” )

Repenting of our sins (2 Corinthians 7:10 “For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.” )

Confessing that Jesus is the Christ the son of God (Matthew 16:16 “And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” )

And being immersed in water for the remission of our sins (1 Peter 3:21 “The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:”)

If you have already put on your Lord in baptism but you have left his healing hand and entered back into sin 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
