What are the traits of a thirsty heart?The thirsty heart is one that God can pour his Spirit on and through.

A thirsty heart protects us from unhealthy motivations.

A thirsty heart keeps our direction focused on God and his will.

Why does a minister need a thirsty heart?A thirsty heart gives us the right perspective A thirty heart help us know what agenda to pursue What were the choices the Apostles had in ?They had to consider listening and following God or man.

He challenged the leaders to make to make this the basis of their judgment God or man List the four steps to developing a thirsty heart.

Our need of God- We must be fully aware of our need of God.

We must know that we cannot live without him.

We must take time to develop an intimacy with God that is reflective of our deep need for him.

2. Separation - Like Elisha, we to need to be fully commited to the call of God upon our life.

We must recognize that his plan will not alway be our own and be willing to abandon our agenda to follow his.

3. Communication- Communicate our heart to God regularly- We do this in worship, devotion, and prayer.

This activity is essensial because it forms the foundation from which ministry is birthed.

The strength of of ministry for God is our communicating with God. 4. Pursuit- We must make the pursuit of God the priority of our life.

4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

The angel of of the church was the pastor or leader to whom authority was given.

The church will never be effective unles the leader is close to God.

That pursuit must never be crowded out by activity.

The one activity that is foundational to ministry is the pursuit of God himself.

Our desire for God must endure.

Why must a minister maintain a repentent heart?There will aways be challenges in ministry.

A repentant heart recognizes and constantly evaluates ones action.

It is neccesary for the achievement of life-change.

There are numerous temptations that the ministrer will face.

They come primarily as a diversion from the primary calling.

How do we maintain a Repentant Heart?

Returning to our central need of God Maintain a sense of unworthiness and a need for God’s righteousness.

Guard against pride.

We will never be rid of ourselves.

We must continue to recognize our unworthiness in light of God’s righteousness.

A repentant heart is an honest heart.

It is a heart that soberly assesses oneself with the only measure that counts.

​ KJV 19009 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour: 10 And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance, 11 And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth: 12 Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.

13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.

14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.

15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

16 This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.

17 Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made inquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate, 18 And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.

19 While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.

20 Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.

21 Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?

22 And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.

23 Then called he them in, and lodged them.
