UNISON IN CHRIST – Serving Together with One Heart

Duration: 15 minutes Key Text: Romans 15:5–6 (NIV)

"May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ."

Intro

Many organizations and clubs exist to do good. They feed the poor, help the needy, and serve society. These are wonderful things.

But there is a question every Christian group must ask:

"Are we simply working together, or are we united in Christ?"

A team can have one project but different hearts. A club can have one name but different motives. A church can have one building but divided spirits.

God is not only looking for people who work together. He is looking for people whose hearts are united in Christ.

The word "Unison" means acting as one. In music, unison is when every voice sings the same note. If one singer sings differently, the harmony is affected.

Likewise, Christ desires His followers to be united—not merely in activity, but in purpose, love, and obedience.

Point 1: True Unison Begins with Christ

Scripture

John 15:5

"I am the vine; you are the branches..."

A branch cannot bear fruit unless it remains connected to the vine.

The same is true for Christian service.

We may organize meetings. We may raise funds. We may help people.

But if Christ is not the source of our lives, our work becomes only human effort.

Christian unity is not built on:

Friendship

Common interests

Same tribe or language

Same profession

It is built on Jesus Christ.

Illustration

A bundle of sticks tied together looks strong.

But if the rope is removed, every stick falls apart.

Jesus is the rope that holds believers together.

Application

Before asking, "What can we do?"

Ask,

"Are we walking closely with Christ?"

Without Christ there may be cooperation.

With Christ there is true unison.

Point 2: True Unison Requires Godly Character

Scripture

Philippians 2:2–5

Paul says,

"...being like-minded, having the same love..."

Then he continues,

"In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus."

Notice that Paul talks about attitude before action.

Many ministries fail not because they lack money.

They fail because of:

Pride

Jealousy

Bitterness

Selfish ambition

Lack of forgiveness

Our testimony speaks louder than our activities.

People may appreciate our service.

But they are transformed when they see Christ in our lives.

A Christian group should be known not only for helping people, but for loving one another.

If our lives contradict our message, people hear our words but doubt our faith.

Application

Ask yourself:

Am I humble?

Am I honest?

Am I forgiving?

Does my life point people to Jesus?

God is more interested in our character than our reputation.

Point 3: True Unison Exists to Glorify God Through Service

Scripture

Romans 15:6

"...so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ."

Notice the goal.

Not fame.

Not recognition.

Not popularity.

The purpose is the glory of God.

Jesus said in Matthew 5:16

"Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

Christian service is never about making our name great.

It is about making Christ known.

Helping the poor.

Visiting the sick.

Encouraging young people.

Serving the elderly.

Supporting families.

These are not simply social works.

They become worship when they are done for Christ.

Every act of kindness should point someone toward Jesus.

Conclusion

If your club is called Unison, let it become more than a name.

Let it become your identity.

May people say,

"Those people truly love one another."

"Those people serve without expecting anything in return."

"Those people remind us of Jesus."

The world has many organizations.

But what the world desperately needs is Christ-centered people who are united in heart, character, and mission.

Challenge

Today, ask yourself:

Is Christ truly the center of my life?

Does my character reflect Christ?

Am I serving for God's glory or my own?

If every member commits to walking closely with Jesus, then Unison will become more than a club—it will become a living testimony of Christ's love to the community.
