Golf club

I have just come into possession of a mini driver. Now see, my golf game is up and down. I’m streaky. But my plan is always, if I can get onto the green unembarrassingly then I’m satisfied. Its that driver though. And you look like a nerd taking a hybrid or a two iron to hit off the tee. Better pure it, because if you don’t, should’ve just used the driver. Its all one thing to do this on your own as well, what happens when you’re playing with a group, trying to play through, or have someone pretty watching?! It changes everything. So maybe this mini-driver is my ticket?!?!?!
But I have this fear… what if I do get it figured out. What if its the key to my mediocre golf game?!?! What if i’m driving it 250 and straightish and I’m playing two from 150 out instead of the usual 3 or 4?!?! Then I’d find another hole in my game. And then that would be the one thing. And so on and so forth. And this is how life is. You get one thing figured out and that reveals the next thing and on and on it goes. What’s that one thing that you could get and be satisfied with?!
Obviously heaven! And to be with Jesus forever!, but its like they say, who wants to go to heaven?! how about right now?!?!! Fewer hands!
Ok, so how do we do that with a full busy schedule and a golf game that now has hope, but its way too hot to play?
Well, you put things into perspective and work on what you do have control over, and you do the most good you can with your limited energy and limited resources. Remember, golf is not life, its a good leisure thing to do that supports your mental and physical life. Work is not life, its something that supports the family and makes the world tolerable and liveable and enjoyable. Even your family, is it an end in itself? Yes and no, it is a school of love that you can pour yourself into safely so that you can grow into the man and women that you were made for so that you can get ready for the family of heaven. Even your spouse, let’s say you are the most in love a couple could be in, your spouse is your friend to love and to walk to God with and not completely and end in themselves, because you will hand them over to God at one point or another and you will be asked to keep going.

St. Christopher

Anyway, your job is to go and continue looking for that one thing…
Reminds me of investing. Buy low, sell high, buy something else, try and do the same. So that eventually you can have the object of your desire…retirement… a mini driver… whatever that good thing is that aids your endeavors of being a human and a disciple.
Have you ever heard of the story of St. Christopher? Maybe not in a while?
St. Christopher was a giant.
St. Christopher wanted to serve the greatest king on earth. So, he asked the local king if he may serve him. Of course!!
Christopher served him faithfully. One day the king showed fear when another kingdom was about to attack his castle.
“So, I am not serving the greatest ruler on earth, if you fear this other king,” said Christopher.
Christopher left the service of this king and served that king and so on and so forth. He saw that the King paid great reverence to his priest chaplain. But one day with the priest he saw that he was afraid of the devil. So he went to find this devil character. Eventually, he met the devil, and the devil claimed to be the greatest ruler of the world. Again, Christopher served the devil faithfully. But one day as they passed a crucifix, the devil became afraid.
“You’re not the greatest ruler either!” exclaimed Christopher, and he left the devil.
Christopher learned that the devil feared Jesus, and so he wanted to serve Jesus. He met a monk who taught Christopher all about the Catholic faith and baptized him. The monk wanted Christopher to become a hermit (a man who lives by himself in the wilderness and devotes most of his day to prayer). However, Christopher was not happy about this idea. So the monk told him to find another way to serve Christ.
There was a deep and treacherous river nearby, and Christopher, with approval from the monk, went there to help guide boats and people across the water.
One day a small boy showed up and asked Christopher to help him across. Christopher put him on his shoulders and started out into the water. About halfway across the water, the child seemed to grow heavier and heavier. Christopher could barely get the two of them across the water. After reaching the other shore, Christopher sat down to rest and asked the child why he became so heavy.
“I am the Christ child that you carried across the river, and you were also carrying the burdens of the world that I always carry.”
Then the Christ child vanished.
Christ is always playing with us and its our job to keep following him selecting not just the best overall good goal, but trying to do the best throughout the day. This changes you if in everything you are trying to do the very best thing. Just like the angels at the end of time will haul in everything, well that’s kind of how we are supposed to be, keeping what is good and throwing away what is bad. And as we do this it gets easier and easier to identify what is bad and what is good.
People will see you pick the good and reject the bad, and they will want to follow you or they will say, “You’re so judgy!” Yea well, you’re concerned with the opinion of Jesus and his friends, not with the opinion of the world.
Just remember, to tie in the first reading. Solomon was very smart, and wise…and even he fell to lust and idolotry. So remember, its not how you start, but how you finish. If something so simple could take down the great king, what am I to do? Keep choosing Christ in every little thing you do. Choose the good and choose it because you are a Christian!

Superó a Bélgica 2-1.
