Transcript
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

NOT ONE OF THOSE BABIES SURPRISED GOD, WERE AN ACCIDENT OR A MISTAKE!
And God gave RJ to you!
Every child has a purpose…
And every child has parents and family that God gave the to help them find that purpose.
Proverbs 22:6 “6 Train up a child in the way he should go: And when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
It is the responsibility of the parents to study that child and know him and then direct him in the paths that will lead them to where God wants them to be!
Psalm 127:3–5 “3 Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord:
Heritage: inheritance - Children are God’s inheritance!
When a child is conceived, they are instantly a special concern of God!
Exodus 22:22–24 “22 Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child. 23 If thou afflict them in any wise, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry; 24 And my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.”
Matthew 18:6 “6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.”
Mark 10:14 “14 But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.”
Parents responsibility:
Teach them to obey God Word: Deuteronomy 6:7 “7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.”
Lead by example: Proverbs 20:7 “7 The just man walketh in his integrity: His children are blessed after him.”
Protect from harm: Matthew 18:6 “6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.”
Discipline in love: Proverbs 13:24 “24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: But he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.”
Teach them how to be Born Again: Acts 2:39 “39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”
Our text presented a problem for Nicodemus…
How can a man be born again when he is old?
Answer: You are confusing the natural and the spiritual…
The natural is an allegory for the spiritual.
Just as you are born physically, you must also be born spiritually!
John 3:7 “7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.”
verse 3 says you must be born again to see the kingdom of God!
So… we are born, and THEN must be born AGAIN!
Jesus was telling Nicodemus that there are two things here…
A natural birth that you had NO control over.
And a rebirth that ONLY you had control over!
Except a man be born again…
This is the physical mirroring the spiritual.
So what is the “rebirth”? 1 Peter 1:23 “23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.”
Jesus summed it up in two baptisms…
Water
Spirit
Water Baptism:
Mark 16:16 “16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
Baptism is a spiritual washing!
Acts 22:16 “16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.”
1 Peter 3:21 “21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:”
Titus 3:5 “5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;”
Note: Titus includes both baptisms
Jesus wants us to be spiritually clean!
Spirit Baptism:
Mark 1:8 “8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.”
The first baptism cleans you…
The second fills you!
Acts 2:1–4 “1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
Something happens here in the second baptism… TONGUES!
God fills you to overflowing with his spirit and it comes out your mouth in a language you have never spoken before!
You’ve heard the process of a child being born as a miracle…
Miracle of life, miracle of birth
Well the spirit mirrors that!
This is the miracle of spiritual birth!
When you are praying and hear words you don’t understand, speak them!
Conclusion:
Just like physically RJ was born into a family…
Spiritually, you are born into a family!
1 Corinthians 12:13 “13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.”
Ephesians 2:19 “19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;”
Galatians 6:10 “10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”
