A. Nahum Often Counted The Highest Among The Minor Prophets

Nahum prophesied about the time of Isaiah and Micah

Nahum was a native of Galilee

Capernaum means “Village of Nahum”

Nahum means “comforter”

Primarily a book of prophesied judgment against Ninevah … about 150 years after Jonah’s revival there

Perhaps best known to some because of 2:3–4 … sometimes thought to be a prophecy of the automobile

A message of tranquility in a time of trouble

A message of comfort in a time of chaos

A message of peace in a time of peril

II. Body

A. The Lord is Good … Reveals the Personality of the Lord

What good news! God is good

Not a divine dictator bent on punishment

Not a triune tyrant waiting to pounce on us

The child’s prayer: “God is great, God is good” HE IS!

The Lord is good: Creation declares it!

Genesis 1:1–25: Each part of creation speaks of His goodness

Creation’s beauty is good

Only humanity fell into sin

The Lord is good: The cross demonstrates it

The greatest evidence of His goodness

The greatest demonstration of His mercy and love

The crucified and risen Christ shows God’s goodness

B. A Stronghold in the Day of Trouble … Announces the Protection of God

A place of protection in times of peril

The walled cities of long ago

The early settlers and their forts

America as a place of protection for those fleeing persecution

Trouble comes to every life, but the Lord meets us there (John 16:33)

Times of sickness

Times of emotional stress

Times of depression

Times of financial reverses

C. He Knoweth them that Trust in Him … Speaks of a Personal Walk with God

The privilege of being known by God

Neither a king nor a president … but the Lord

Trust is the basis of this close relationship

The Lord is good

He protects us

Therefore, He is worthy of our faith
