Behavioral Aim

To teach believers that before fighting life's battles with their own strength, they must learn to send praise before them. God often gives victory to those who worship before they war.

INTRODUCTION

Every believer has discovered that life is full of battles.

Some battles are financial. Some are emotional. Some are physical. Some happen inside the home. Others happen inside your own heart.

No one escapes conflict.

The mistake many believers make is assuming every battle begins with strategy.

We sharpen our arguments. We gather our evidence. We develop our plans. We prepare our defenses.

But heaven has always taught a different principle.

God often says...

"Before you send your strength... before you send your resources... before you send your weapons...

Send Judah first."

Judah was not Israel's largest tribe.

Judah was not Israel's most experienced tribe.

Judah wasn't chosen because they possessed the best military equipment.

Judah was chosen because Judah represented something far greater than military power.

The name Judah literally means Praise.

God was teaching Israel—and us—that victory often begins with worship before it begins with warfare.

BACKGROUND

Judges 20 records one of the darkest moments in Israel's history.

A terrible sin had been committed in Gibeah.

The nation gathered together seeking justice.

Civil war was unavoidable.

Before going into battle, Israel did something commendable.

They sought God.

Yet something interesting happens.

They didn't ask if they should fight.

They didn't ask how to fight.

They simply asked...

"Who goes first?"

God's answer surprises everyone.

Not Reuben.

Not Ephraim.

Not Benjamin.

God simply answered,

"Judah shall go up first."

This was not a random military assignment.

This had been God's pattern from the beginning.

In the wilderness, whenever Israel marched...

Judah marched first.

Whenever the camp moved...

Judah moved first.

Whenever the battle began...

Judah led the procession.

God had established a divine order.

Praise always goes before victory.

THE QUESTION

What happens when we learn to send Judah first?

I. PRAISE PREPARES THE ATMOSPHERE FOR GOD'S PRESENCE

Psalm 22:3 declares,

"But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel."

God lives where He is praised.

Notice...

Complaining attracts discouragement.

Fear attracts confusion.

Unbelief attracts defeat.

But praise attracts the presence of God.

When Judah marched...

God marched.

Because wherever praise goes...

God follows His praise.

Many believers want God's presence without praise.

They want miracles without worship.

Breakthrough without thanksgiving.

Victory without lifting their voice.

Yet heaven still says...

"Send Judah first."

Sometimes your greatest weapon isn't another prayer request.

Sometimes your greatest weapon is a praise that refuses to be silenced.

Your circumstances may not have changed...

but your atmosphere can.

Before confronting your boss...

Send Judah first.

Before the doctor's appointment...

Send Judah first.

Before court...

Send Judah first.

Before surgery...

Send Judah first.

Before the difficult conversation...

Send Judah first.

II. PRAISE CONFUSES THE ENEMY

The enemy understands something many believers forget.

Praise changes battles.

When King Jehoshaphat faced impossible odds, he didn't place elite soldiers at the front.

He placed singers.

While they praised...

God fought.

The enemy became confused.

Three armies destroyed themselves.

Israel didn't win because they had superior weapons.

They won because praise invited divine intervention.

The devil knows what happens when a church starts praising.

Chains begin falling.

Strongholds begin breaking.

Depression begins lifting.

Hope begins returning.

Families begin healing.

Heaven begins moving.

Hell becomes nervous whenever Judah starts marching.

Sometimes...

The devil expects panic.

Instead...

Give him praise.

He expects tears.

Give him worship.

He expects fear.

Lift your hands.

He expects silence.

Open your mouth.

Send Judah first.

III. PRAISE DECLARES CONFIDENCE BEFORE THE VICTORY ARRIVES

Anyone can praise after the miracle.

Anyone can shout after the check arrives.

Anyone can worship after healing comes.

But faith praises before seeing evidence.

Praise says...

"I haven't seen it...

but I believe God."

Praise says...

"I don't understand...

but I trust Him."

Praise says...

"The diagnosis isn't final.

The eviction isn't final.

The divorce isn't final.

The addiction isn't final.

God has the final word."

Judah marched before anyone knew how the battle would end.

Praise is faith wearing a song.

IV. PRAISE REMINDS US WHO IS REALLY FIGHTING

Judah did not guarantee Israel victory because Judah was powerful.

Judah reminded Israel that God was powerful.

Praise shifts our attention.

Instead of looking at the mountain...

we look at God.

Instead of counting enemies...

we count God's promises.

Instead of measuring our weakness...

we remember His strength.

Praise changes perspective.

The battle looks different when viewed through worship.

CONCLUSION

Perhaps you've walked into church carrying something heavy.

A diagnosis.

Financial pressure.

Grief.

Disappointment.

Family struggles.

You've been trying to fight in your own strength.

God sent this word today to tell you...

Stop leading with fear.

Stop leading with anxiety.

Stop leading with frustration.

Stop leading with your own understanding.

Send Judah first.

Praise before the breakthrough.

Praise before the answer.

Praise before the promotion.

Praise before reconciliation.

Praise before healing.

Praise before the victory.

Because praise is not denial.

Praise is confidence that God has already gone ahead.

CELEBRATORY CLOSE

Can I preach this like I feel it?

There are people who think praise belongs at the end of the testimony.

But that's not how God's people have always lived.

The walls of Jericho didn't fall because they complained.

They shouted!

Jehoshaphat didn't win because his army was stronger.

He sent singers!

Paul and Silas didn't wait until the prison doors opened.

They praised while they were still chained!

Somebody came into this sanctuary carrying a battle.

You've cried enough.

You've worried enough.

You've stayed awake enough.

But heaven sent me to tell you...

SEND JUDAH FIRST!

Before Monday gets here...

Send Judah first!

Before the bills are due...

Send Judah first!

Before the next doctor's report...

Send Judah first!

Before the children come home...

Send Judah first!

Before the enemy whispers another lie...

Send Judah first!

Because when Judah goes first...

God goes with Judah!

When God goes with Judah...

The enemy cannot stand!

When God fights...

No weapon formed against you shall prosper!

If you believe God is still worthy before the victory...

Open your mouth!

Lift your hands!

Give Him glory!

Give Him honor!

Give Him praise!

SEND JUDAH FIRST!

And if you can praise Him before you see it...

You won't have to wonder whether He's coming—

He's already on the way.
