Who Will You Trust?

Theme: Every person must make a decision.

Key Scripture: John 14:6; John 3:16–18

Over the past few days we've asked some important questions.

Who can I trust?

Why am I here?

What's wrong with the world—and with me?

Today everything comes down to one final question.

What will you do with Lord Jesus?

Not...

"What does your family believe?"

Not...

"What does your church believe?"

Not...

"What does your best friend believe?"

But...

What will YOU do with Lord Jesus?

Whether you realise it or not, every person eventually answers that question.

Ignoring Him is a decision.

Rejecting Him is a decision.

Trusting Him is a decision.

1. The Lord Jesus Made Extraordinary Claims

Most people are happy to say Lord Jesus was a good man.

Some say He was a prophet.

Others say He was a great teacher.

But Jesus never left us with those options.

Listen to His words.

"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6)

Notice what Jesus didn't say.

He didn't say,

"I'll show you a way."

He said,

"I AM the way."

He didn't say,

"I'll teach you some truth."

He said,

"I AM the truth."

He didn't say,u

"I'll help you find life."

He said,

"I AM the life."

Those are astonishing claims.

If anyone else stood here and said,

"I am the only way to God,"

we would think they were either lying or completely deluded.

Jesus leaves us with only a few possibilities.

Either He was:

a liar,

mistaken,

or exactly who He claimed to be.

There really isn't another option.

Illustration

Imagine your GPS says,

"Turn left."

Your friend says,

"Turn right."

Even everyone says right - does tha make it true

Both directions cannot be right.

Truth isn't decided by majority vote.

Either Jesus was telling the truth...

or He wasn't.

2. The Lord Jesus Is Different From Religious Leader

Many religions have founders.

But Lord Jesus is unique.

Every other religious leader eventually died.

The Lord Jesus died...

and rose again.

Christianity doesn't simply ask you to admire the Lord Jesus.

It points to an empty tomb.

Paul wrote,

"If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile."

Everything depends on the resurrection.

The resurrection tells us:

God accepted Jesus' sacrifice.

Death was defeated.

The Lord Jesus really is God's Son.

No one else has ever conquered death like Jesus.

Why did the Lord Jesus die?

This is the heart of the message.

The Lord Jesus wasn't dying because He had done wrong.

He had never sinned.

He died for us.

The punishment that belonged to us...

fell on Him.

Our guilt...

placed on Him.

Our judgement...

taken by Him.

Three days later He rose again.

That means forgiveness is possible.

3. Eternal Life Is Found Only in the Lord Jesus

Let's read John 3:16.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Notice several amazing truths.

God loved

This all begins with God's love.

God isn't trying to keep people away.

He is inviting them home.

God gave

Love always costs.

God gave His Son.

Jesus willingly gave His life.

Whoever

One of the greatest words in the Bible.

Not just good people.

Not religious people.

Not perfect people.

Whoever.

That includes you.

Believes

Believing isn't simply agreeing that Jesus existed.

Even historians believe Jesus existed.

Believing means trusting Him.

Depending on Him.

Placing your life into His hands.

This is not just believing facts about Him…

Lots of people know facts about Jesus.

They know He lived.

They know He died.

They know Christmas.

They know Easter.

But knowing about Jesus is different from trusting Jesus.

Trust means placing your life in Him.

4. Everyone Must Choose

John 3 goes on to say something many people forget.

The Lord Jesus says people are already separated from God because of sin.

The issue isn't that God is unwilling to save.

The issue is whether people will come to Jesus.

God never forces anyone.

Love always allows a response.

Every person must choose.

Some choose popularity.

Some choose money.

Some choose themselves.

Some choose to please their families.

Some choose to keep putting Jesus off.

But putting Him off...

is still making a choice.

What Does It Mean to Trust the Lord Jesus?

It isn't about becoming religious.

It isn't about joining a church.

It isn't about trying harder.

The Bible speaks of repentance and faith.

Repentance

Repentance means changing your mind about who is in charge and who is right.

Instead of living life your own way...

you turn to God.

You recognise your sin.

You agree with God that you need His forgiveness.

Faith

Faith means relying on the Lord Jesus.

Not your good deeds.

Not your parents' faith.

Not your church attendance.

Not religiousness

Only the Lord Jesus.

Because only He died for your sins.

Only He rose again.

Only He can forgive and give eternal life.

Conclusion

This week you've heard about Jesus.

Maybe you've asked questions.

Maybe you're still unsure.

That's okay.

God isn't afraid of honest questions.

But don't ignore the biggest question of all.

What will you do with The Lord Jesus?

One day every one of us will stand before God.

On that day, the only thing that will matter is whether we have trusted His Son.

Jesus said,

"I am the way, the truth and the life."

Either He was wrong...

or He is exactly who He claimed to be.

If He really is God's Son...

then trusting Him is the most important decision you will ever make.

Final Challenge

Perhaps tonight you realise you've never actually trusted Christ.

You've known about Him.

You've heard the stories.

But you've never placed your life in His hands.

You can do that today.

Not because you've earned it.

Not because you're good enough.

But because Jesus died for you and rose again.

The question isn't whether Jesus is trustworthy. The question is: Will you trust Him?
