Gideon: The Mighty Man of Valor (2)

Introduction

This morning we are going to start looking at the life of Gideon.

Who he was and what he did.

This was a very perilous time in the life of the Israelites.

They were worshiping the false God Baal

They had turned their backs on God.

But God still loved them and still had a plan for them.

Gideon The Man

Based on what is said about Gideon in the New Testament we know that he was a man of great faith.

Hebrews 11:32–34 ESV

And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets— who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight.

Gideon is the Champion of the underdog.

He was a nobody

Even though he was a nobody God still used him in a mighty way.

Thats what God does, He takes the smallest most insignificant people and turns them into the great warriors that He needs to achive His plans.

We need warriors today just as much as they did back then.

Just look at all the things going on around us today.

We have to take a stand and we have to fight the battles that need to be fought.

All that needs to happen is that we stay seated and do nothing.

By The Numbers

Gideon was limited by God in numbers.

He had only 300 men.

The Midianites had 135,000

That seems impossible but with God all things are possible.

We will learn of the coming weeks why he only had 300 men but the main reason as simple.

God wanted Gideon to rely on Him.

God will fight our battles for us if we let Him.

Often God is equipped to handle the fight but we don’t let Him.

Often we take the sword from Him and we try to do it ourselves.
