We Want To See Jesus

Roughly 50% of adults rarely or never attend a church service each year.

Think about this for a moment. This is gained from many different surveys and I read it often through some of the people I follow. Yet, as a recent Gallup survey I read indicated most people feel the morals of our nation are getting worse.

The Gospel of Jesus is needed and unknown in our world.

We must stop assuming people know who Jesus is. We must also assume that the Gospel is still powerful to change lives.

The Greeks found Philip and asked to see Jesus.

They had heard the reputation. They were curious. They also found someone associated with Jesus. Do people know you know Jesus? Do you ever talk about being at church or do you assume people know?

Jesus responds curiously—uses a well known metaphor.

Jews understood the kernel of wheat to be about the resurrection at the end. Greeks were also familiar with its usage and os had a chance to understand what was being said.

We must speak in ways people can understand.

Note We do NOT change the Gospel, ever!!! However, we must make sure we use language people can understand or they may say “no” because they do not get it.

Jesus’ death brings life.

Jesus will die in order that life may be given to any and all. This is the “hour/time” he has been waiting for. Teh whole world, yes including Greeks, will have the opportunity for salvation.

We must die so we can have true life.

Our death is necessary in order to gain the eternal life of Jesus.

To see Jesus we must see the cross.

If someone wants to see Jesus we must get them to the cross. It is not just about his teaching, or his miracles, or the Bible but it must lead to the cross. There we see Jesus the clearest. There we see the Messiah and salvation.

God is sovereign.

The quote from Isaiah is a reminder that God is in control and knows what will happen before we. It is a reminder that we are never a failure when we obey the words of Scripture and Jesus.

Not everyone will believe. Our message will not always be accepted.

This is a reality we must live in. If Jesus was not believed by all neither will we.

Jesus will guide.

He is the light of the world. He has a plan for us. He will come back for us. In the meantime we need to make his name known.
