Sermon Series: WHO AM I?
INTRODUCTION.
This account is different than the one in Matthew 10 and Luke 9:1-11 where Jesus sent out the 12 Apostles. — Jesus sent them throughout Galilee.
Here Jesus is sending out the 70 or 72 into Judea.
Luke 10:1-24.
MESSAGE.

I. We are SENT by God.

The 70 not apostles but are sent with a commission.
There is a need. (v2.)
Difficult calling
Laborer sent - not just watching.
praying for more laborer
but they went.
There are dangers. (v3.)
Vance Havner - American Southern Baptist minister, evangelist, and author - more than 70 years of ministry.
Vance Havner - “Most church members do not gie Satan enough trouble to arouse his opposition”. (Warren Wiersbe - The Bible Exposition Commentary p. 210.)
There are directions.
Let Christ supply your needs.
Take peace.

II. We are to HEAR the warning. (vv.13-16)

There is judgement.

A sign of protest and a warning of impending judgment.
Acts 13:51 “51 But they shook off the dust of their feet in protest against them and went to Iconium.”
Acts 18:6 “6 But when they resisted and blasphemed, he shook out his garments and said to them, “Your blood be on your own heads! I am clean. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.””

Joy of Sovereignty. (vv.21-24)
Christ reveals. (v21.)
Sovereignty of God. - “Lord of Heaven and Earth”
wise and intelligent.
given to the infants.
Jesus was not excited or rejoicing because sinners were blinded to God’s truth, for God is “not willing that any should perish” (2 Peter 3:9 “9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.” )
He rejoiced because the understanding of that truth did not depend on natural abilities or education. (Warren Wiersbe - The Bible Exposition Commentary (p. 211)
CONCLUSION.
We are ambassadors but we must note here the commission give to us.
We are not the 12 Apostles or the 70 sent out.
We are commissioned to proclaim the Gospel not performing of miracles.
Luke 24:46–49 NASB95
46 and He said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 “You are witnesses of these things. 49 “And behold, I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”
Matthew 28:19–20 NASB95
19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
