What Would Jesus Do?

A movement that started by a man named Charles Sheldon at the turn of the 20th century.

He wrote a novel called “In His Steps” that has sold over 20 Million copies.

The book told stories of people walking in the steps of Jesus in different circumstances.

Charles Sheldon had a deep conviction that authentic Christianity should produce transformed lives.

Marked by love, compassion, Justice and equality.

A life where abstract matters of Theology have less meaning than the matters that we live out.

We can agree of disagree on the entire bible, but if we don’t live it out… What’s the point?!?

Christian’s should live the principle we read about.

The beliefs we love to discuss, should be the very ones we desire to practice.

When our faith is walked out of the church doors and into the community, that is where the real application happens.

So many times, the church walls become the very bushel hiding the light of the lamp from the darkness.

Charles Sheldon lived as a homeless person for a week to understand the effects of poverty and how to better serve the homeless in his community.

The Verse that the book opens with is

1 Peter 2:21 ESV

21 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.

Romans 8:29 ESV

29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

Believers are “predestined to be conformed to the image of Jesus,” making Christ-likeness not an aspiration but God’s predetermined design.

From the beginning, the plan was that we would walk in a manner worthy of our calling.

Ephesians 4:1 ESV

1 I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called,

This is the hope of the world, that you and I reflect Jesus to those around us.

That they see Jesus in our actions.

That they hear Jesus in our speech.

They walk away with a sense that they just connected with the divine, the supernatural.

Have you ever experienced a moment where it almost feels like time stops because you know you are having a God moment?

Have you ever had someone pray for you are prophesy into your life in a public setting?

Anyone can act like the devil. That’s pretty easy.

In fact, our sinful nature pulls us that direction constantly.

Whos always looking out for number 1? I am… You are…

Jesus modeled a beautiful… powerful… supernatural lifestyle for you and I to emulate.

Jesus was completely surrendered to the Father.

Many people walked away…

John 6:55–66 ESV

55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread the fathers ate, and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” 59 Jesus said these things in the synagogue, as he taught at Capernaum. 60 When many of his disciples heard it, they said, “This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?” 61 But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples were grumbling about this, said to them, “Do you take offense at this? 62 Then what if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? 63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. 64 But there are some of you who do not believe.” (For Jesus knew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him.) 65 And he said, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father.” 66 After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him.

As we are going into the fall of 2026 - this is such a powerful reminder that we are not our own.

That we are here to walk In His Steps.

“What Would Jesus Do?”

This question is the greatest thing that seperates us from the rest of the world!

We are going to study over the coming weeks, how to ASK, LISTEN and WALK out what Jesus would do.

We need a few weeks in this series because I want you to get excited about inviting your friends to come and study this with you.

Also, the way that church attendance is for most people, if you don’t teach something for 3 weeks in a row, people are missing it.

You know Jesus was a bit unorthodox?

He didn’t play by men’s rules.

He played by the Lord’s rules.

Jesus knew this universe inside and out.

He knew that there are moments where the Father wants to break open the natural circumstances with a Supernatural work.

He calls timeout to the carnal existence and cuts through with divine power.

Jesus Healed people on the Sabbath - That was a religious rule that he broke.

Jesus cast out demons. only the religious leaders were supposed to do that.

Jesus fed a crowd of 5000 thousand people with five loaves and bread and 2 fish.

Jesus walked on water.

Jesus raised the dead.

Jesus is looking for some people in wilson county who are willing to ask the question!

WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?!?

John 14:12 ESV

12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.

Acts 5:14–16 ESV

14 And more than ever believers were added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women, 15 so that they even carried out the sick into the streets and laid them on cots and mats, that as Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on some of them. 16 The people also gathered from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those afflicted with unclean spirits, and they were all healed.
