The Good News! - It’s the Gospel
The Good News! - It’s the Gospel
The Good news that we obeyed
The Good News obeyed because we believed
We believed because we heard the “true” Gospel
We are not ashamed of Gospel for we know the power of the Gospel (lide)
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
(Slide) The Gospel has
(Slide) Things to believe
(Slide) Commands to obey
(Slide) Promises to receive
(Slide) Blessings to enjoy
(transition) Sometimes we need to remember these things to help us to help others to come to believe and obey the Gospel and receive the promises and the blessings. Tonight if filled with scriptures so hold on and if you don’t walk away encouraged by God’s Word and God’s promises and blessings than you are already dead.
I. Promise/Blessing: Forgiveness of Sins!
I. Promise/Blessing: Forgiveness of Sins!
You can find many scriptures on the promise of forgiveness and the blessings that come as a result of the forgiveness. Described in many ways, so let’s look at some.
(Slide) The Remission of sins ()
38 Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
(Slide) Have your sins taken away (; )
29 The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
27 “This is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins.”
(Slide) Have our sins blotted out ()
19 “Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord;
(Slide) How about our sins washed away? ( )
16 ‘Now why do you delay? Get up and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on His name.’
(Slide) Have our sins covered and penalty of sin not imputed on us! ()
7 “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, And whose sins are covered; 8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord shall not impute sin.”
7 “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds have been forgiven, And whose sins have been covered.
(Slide) And there is more; we are set free! ()
17 But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were committed, 18 and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.
(Slide) Because of what Christ did you have had your sins purged. (
3 And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
(Slide) And finally, and yes, this is still point #1 - your sins remembered no more! ()
12 “For I will be merciful to their iniquities, And I will remember their sins no more.”
(Transition) Emotionalism aside, do you believe these things, these biblical truths? Do you truly believe that the sin problem has been taken care of and you are in receipt of the blessing of forgiveness of Sins?
(Slide) Only One Way; God’s Way through Jesus Christ
(Slide) It’s by God’s grace through the blood of Christ ()
7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace
(Slide) God loved us so (Jn3:16) that He sent His Son as our propitiation ()
10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
(Slide) Jesus sent to satisfy God’s righteousness (justice) ()
24 being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; 25 whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed; 26 for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
Justified, Redeemed
Our sins passed over
Why? Because of our faith (the thing believed)
That thing being the person, Jesus the Christ
(Slide) The blessings continue in Christ as we continue to walk in Him (1Jn1:7) and confess our sins (Slide) ()
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
(transition) Do you have this blessed assurance that Jesus is mine? Doesn’t God’s promises, God’s blessings want to make you share the gift of eternal life with others?
II. The Gift of Eternal Life
II. The Gift of Eternal Life
(Slide) The gift is not what we deserve
(Slide) We deserve the wages of our sin - death Rom6:23
(Slide) But God by His grace gives us the gift, the gift of eternal life (Slide) ()
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
(Slide) So, the question arises do we want what we deserve or what God graciously offers to us?
(Slide) The gift is a future hope and a present possession.
(Slide) Eternal life is a future hope (Mt25:46; Rom6:22)
(Slide) Eternal life is ours today too (1Jn5:11-13; Jn17:3)
(Slide) Let’s look at these scriptures to show the proof.
- to the righteous eternal life!
46 “These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
- Freed from sin, the results, the outcome, the benefit is eternal life.
22 But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life.
- those who have Christ through faith, obedient faith have eternal life. Those who do not, don’t have God nor the Christ!
11 And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.
- you want to know exactly what eternal life is, the blessing in it?
3 “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
What we have now is belief, faith, hope, trust in God and His Word through His prophets and apostles. Our lifestyle that speaks of what we believe in. That which one day will be fully consummated, fulfilled in eternity with God and His Christ.
(Transition) - But wait there is more, we are talking about promises and blessings of the Gospel, another is the blessing of the promised Holy Spirit to those who believe the Gospel and obey the Gospel.
III. The Gift of the Holy Spirit
III. The Gift of the Holy Spirit
(Slide) The Promise of Holy Spirit
(Slide) Jesus promised it to the thirsty (Jn7:37-39)
(Slide) Apostles promised it to the baptized and the obedient (Act2:38, 5:32)
- The spiritually thirsty can be filled by the Holy Spirit
37 Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. 38 “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’ ” 39 But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
- the repentant, the obedient believer is in receipt of the gift
32 “And we are witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him.”
Now that is a great promise, but it is a promise with conditions
Must believe
Must obey
(Slide) The Blessings of the Holy Spirit
(Slide) We can now cry out Abba Father (Gal4:6)
(Slide) We have spirit of adoption (Rom8:14-16)
(Slide) We are empowered (Eph3:16)
(Slide) We are fruitful (Gal5:22-23)
Now let me just highlight a few of these.
- We are lead, we are sons, we are adopted, we can cry out “Abba Father” and know the Spirit testifies of our adoption
14 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,
- we are empowered by the Spirit; think about it, what are we empowered for? - Empowered to know the truth in which we obeyed; empowered to walk in freedom; empowered to carry the gospel to others
16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man,
- We are fruitful because of the Spirit, the fruit helps prove our adoption, our acceptance and obedience to the Gospel message.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
(Transition) - As a blood bought sin forgiven believer we are empowered by the Spirit to help us in our life now, and the promise of our eternal life to come. This leads us to our next point, our new family, the family of God.
IV. The Blessings of the Family of God
IV. The Blessings of the Family of God
(Slide) The pictured promised family
(Slide) Those who do His will are His family - Mt12:48-50)
(Slide) Those who leave the world behind are His family - Mk10:28-30
(Slide) Those who treat each other right are His family - 1Tim5:1-2
(Slide) Those who are obedient are His family - Act2:41, 47
- those more than blood but those who do His will are his family
48 But Jesus answered the one who was telling Him and said, “Who is My mother and who are My brothers?” 49 And stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He said, “Behold My mother and My brothers! 50 “For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother.”
- those who are willing to leave the worldly things behind and make Jesus the focus, are His family
28 Peter began to say to Him, “Behold, we have left everything and followed You.” 29 Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for My sake and for the gospel’s sake, 30 but that he will receive a hundred times as much now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life.
- those who hear and obey are added to the church, Christ’s family
41 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls.
(Slide) Blessings of being in Christ’s family
(Slide) We are called His children - (1Jn3:1-2; 2Cor1:3-4 We are called brethren (Heb2:17-18)
(
Wisdom from Fellow Pilgrims
Oft hope is born when all is forlorn. We are called brethren (Heb2:17-18)
We are called brethren (Heb2:17-18)
(Slide) We have the love of God - (Rom5:5)
(Slide) We have a large family that care for each other (1Tim5:1-2; Heb3:12-16 and Gal6:1-2)
- We have a loving father who is merciful and brings comfort to the afflicted.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
- not only is He merciful He is faithful and is our high priest
17 Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.
- Merciful, faithful, high priest who has poured out His love
5 and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
