What is sin? Falling short of God’s Way
We used the illustration of a target
Declaration of Freedom - Accepting Christ
Seeking to understand the depth of that freedom
Seeking to fight the RIGHT Battles
Understanding the Battle
Articles of Freedom
Living a life that Glorifies God alone
Seeking to serve and not be served
Victory
We sometime forget WHO WINS —- we read, study and learn but forget at times
We serve GOD
We are HIS alone
He is our ALL in ALL
at Horizon we have a mission —- to Glorify God by Growing Others in Christ
28 Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.
29 For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me.
we have a Vision —- to see real growth and change in Others —- Christians Growing to Become more like CHRIST
we have a statement for daily living —- to BE IN CHRIST DAILY
20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
and a PRACTICAL MAXIM we use
to Pause, Pray, Ponder, Proceed and Praise
8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
REALITY
REALITY
we must learn to PAUSE the world, quiet our minds, and focus on Christ
we must seek to pray before all things
and then seek HIS WORD and HIS WAY
before we proceed
I am thankful to God for a blessing HE gave me
My WIFE
You see Cheri grounds me
I would say for years —— if we were sitting in a plane heading to the ISLANDS
and someone said LETS sky dive to the island instead of the traditional landing
I would jump up and BE READY TO GO
it would be my wife reminding me to put on a parachute.
We all have that JUMP to IT mentality at times
We react with out facts
We run when we should stop and think
It is our innate nature
to run from danger
and sprint to safety
Where it is real or not is the key?
THIS IS LIFE......
Understanding the PATH
Understanding the PATH
we have been relating our journey to the Revolutionary War in the Beginning of the US. Thankful for our FREEDOM
We have had a history lesson for the last few weeks
the DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE
THE ARTICLES OF FREEDOM
But lest we not forget the BATTLE THAT YIELDED VICTORY
the War of Independence was fought from 1775-1783 —- long years of disruption, death, confusion, and struggle
It started with a WANT to BE FREE from TYRANNY
Free from TAXATION with out REPRESENTATION
Our ForeFathers —-drafted a document —declaring that they wanted to be FREE and Independent from the WORLDLY Power over THEM
George Washington - lead our citizens of the NEW NATION through HARDSHIPS, BATTLES, DEFEATS, and a POWERFUL ENEMY that didn’t want to leave go
There were food storages, supply issues, and low depressive times that defeat seemed inevitable
This is much like our Christian journey
once a citizen of a world ruled by Dark Forces —- taxes on sin that we couldn’t pay
Struggling with the chains of sin
Feeling defeated
YELLING “ IT IS NOT FAIR”
Then a group of CHRISTIAN —— told you about a NEW NATION, A NEW BEGINNING, a FREEDOM that existed
You declared yourself FREE
36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
you had men and women of the new nation come around you to JOIN your fight
you experienced struggles, hardships, defeats, and glaring losses in your life
But like the FRENCH in 1777, an ally arose in you
You search, cried, begged for assistance
and you finally connected with CHRIST IN YOU
Christ supplied all your need
19 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Christ became your Saviour and your NEW LORD
He provided what you could not on your own
LOVE, Protection, Provisions, Care —— your ALL
you remember
6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
and we finish our MINI SERIES
with
14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
VICTORY UNDERSTOOD
VICTORY UNDERSTOOD
The final major campaign culminated at Yorktown, Virginia, in 1781, where American and French forces surrounded British General Charles Cornwallis.
With the French navy blocking British reinforcements by sea and Washington's army tightening the siege on land,
Cornwallis surrendered on October 19, 1781.
Although minor military operations continued for nearly two more years, Yorktown effectively ended the fighting.
The Treaty of Paris was signed in 1783, in which Great Britain formally recognized the independence of the United States
and granted the new nation territory stretching from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mississippi River.
VICTORY WAS WON
but as in the Christian LIFE —— the work is never over until Christ Perfects US and brings us home
Following the victory, the United States faced the enormous challenge of transforming from thirteen independent colonies into a unified nation.
Initially governed by the Articles of Confederation, the federal government proved too weak to effectively collect taxes, regulate commerce, or maintain national security.
Economic instability, interstate disputes, and events such as Shays' Rebellion revealed the need for a stronger national government.
In 1787, delegates gathered in Philadelphia and drafted the United States Constitution, creating three branches of government
with a system of checks and balances designed to protect liberty while ensuring effective governance.
The Constitution was ratified in 1788, and George Washington was unanimously elected as the nation's first president in 1789.
Soon afterward, the Bill of Rights—the first ten amendments to the Constitution—was adopted in 1791,
guaranteeing essential freedoms such as religion, speech, the press, assembly, and due process under the law.
These early years established the political, legal, and constitutional foundations of the United States,
enabling the new republic to grow from a fragile alliance of former colonies into a stable constitutional nation built upon representative government and the rule of law.
