Luke 10:19 “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
Do you remember the times in your life where you felt powerless, it was like there was absolutely nothing that you can do to change what was currently going on in your life. It seemed like no matter how you asked for help things didn’t change it seem like no matter who you spoke to. Nothing changed, it seems as if you were by yourself and there was no one coming to save you. These moments in life shape how we view ourselves. studies show that Feeling powerless means you are experiencing a lack of control or influence overcome your circumstances, often accompanied by helplessness and frustration. It's a state that can affect your emotions, behavior, and physical well-being. Studies also show that when we feel helpless, we view ourselves as weak, passive, and lacking personal control, often leading to lower self-esteem, negative self-labeling, and a deep loss of motivation to change our circumstances. and lastly Studies show that when we feel frustrated, our self-perception drops into negative evaluations of our competence, triggering feelings of ineffectiveness, self-doubt, and heightened self-criticism.
All of these feelings, these self perceptions, the self concepts these these behaviors, all stem from us feeling powerless. How can we ever truly believe our true identity when we have these thoughts lingering in our minds, how can we truly embrace the word of God for what the word of God is when we are constantly replaying our past failures, when we see ourselves as less than, when we see nothing but our failures,. How can we trust God and his word if all we continue to revisit and replay is our failures. 2 corthinans 5:7 states fo we walk by faith and not by sight. in other words We're called to not live by our feelings but by faith. How do you live by faith when youve only experinced failure. how can you believe when your heart has broken by the people youve put your faith in. How can you allow your faith to go before you when the road looks dark and lonely. these be some of the positions you find yourself in that causes you to forget who you really are in God.
theres a theory called the Learned helplessness theory and it states that people and animals stop trying to escape negative situations after facing repeated, uncontrollable bad events. Developed by Martin Seligman and Steven Maier in 1967, it explains passive behavior and links to depression.
Some of you have been a victim to this theory and theories has no support or merit when it comes to God and the word of God. So today, you will be enlightened and encourged to reclaim who you are in God. God does not view you like you view yourself, God does not relive or even hold onto your past God does not forgive and still remember what you did. God is the God of love, kindness, patience, understanding, and most importantly God is a god of authority.
These things that we have been feeling in our hearts, and in our minds, and our past experiences, the things that we have been through in our life, we have the ability to overcome them if we want to. 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” The reason why some of you have been through the things that you’ve been through in your life is because your future was greater than your present circumstances, and the enemy tried to destroy, detour, and distort your present situation in order to get you to forfeit the future that God has for you. You already have the goods, you always have but what good is it to have the goods when you don’t really recognize or realize that you already have something that you’re trying to get. The thing that you are trying to get the most you often times turn to people to give it to you when the only person that could give you what you truly need is God. Psalm 24:1–2 “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; The world, and they that dwell therein. For he hath founded it upon the seas, And established it upon the floods.”
What does that mean? that means that everything belongs to God so what you need no one else has it except Him, so go to him to get it.
Often times you find yourself going to people to get advice on something that they truly have no experience in because it is a situation between you and God. That’s why it’s so important for you to have friends or people around us that have the spirit of discernment. That has true connection and relationship with God. Every body that goes to church do not have a true relationship with God. How do I know because the Lord said that youll know them by the fruit that they bear and he also said that everybody that says Lord Lord will not enter into heaven and that includes ppl that went to church.
God wants to help us redirect, our focus back to him, and to realize, and to recognize that he is the source of all of our strength that he is the source of our understanding, and he is also the source of the authority that we seek.
Luke 10:19 in the amp bible says Listen carefully: I have given you authority [that you now possess] to tread on [a]serpents and scorpions, and [the ability to exercise authority] over all the power of the enemy (Satan); and nothing will [in any way] harm you.
This authority is not earned by our own power, but is a gift given by God because of your willingness and obeidence to serve Him.
Listen carefully: I have given you authority [that you now possess]-The words listen carefully implies that you have been listening to other things and not have been truly understanding what has been said to you as you were listening so before he gives you this message before he gives you what he is saying, he is simply asking you to listen carefully. He says I have given you authority, the amplified version ads that you now possess. The word given is an action word. It is a present word and it is a word that highlights what we now have, which is authority not only did he give it to us, but he’s also states that we now possess it. To possess something means that you have it in your hands to possess. Something means you have it in your custody to have something simply means that you now have full access to it.
2. to tread on [a]serpents and scorpions,- In the Greek, the word “tread” is “pateó,” which means:
To trample
To crush with the feet
To advance by setting foot upon
To tread upon: to encounter successfully the greatest perils from the machinations and persecutions with which Satan would fain thwart the preaching of the gospel
That’s not passive. That’s not timid. That’s not gentle. That’s war.
Jesus was declaring that He has given us the divine authority to confront, overcome, and utterly crush the plans of the enemy—not just survive his attacks, but strategically and victoriously trample over every device, trap, and demonic agenda sent to hinder us. This includes spiritual opposition, witchcraft, persecution, demonic interference, and sabotage against our assignments.
Serpents and Scorpions: Demonic Forces Defined
Serpents and Scorpions: Demonic Forces Defined
Serpents are symbolic of deception and cunning, while scorpions represent pain and torment. Jesus was using imagery familiar to His disciples—images of danger, fear, and spiritual toxicity.
Serpents hiss lies and inject venom that can paralyze destinies and kill callings. Scorpions strike from hidden places with stingers of torment meant to wear down your spirit and leave you spiritually numb.
But the Word of God tells us plainly: You have power over all the power of the enemy—not some, not most, but all.
3. and [the ability to exercise authority] over all the power of the enemy (Satan)- The biggest obsticle for most Christians in dealing with the devil is that they expect God to handle all their problems with Satan and his works. They reason that if God is Almighty, then He is more than capable to handling all their problems. They think, “If God wants me free, I will be free. If I’m not free, it must not be God’s will.” This leads to confusion, frustration, or passivity on the part of believers, because they reason, “If God is all powerful, and God is in charge, why doesn’t He do something about my sickness, my marriage, my mental torment, my addiction?”
Certainly God is All Powerful, but the truth is, He has done all that He is going to do about Satan for now, until His angels. it’s YOUR TURN to do something about the devil. YOU must exercise your authority! that Jesus has delegated to YOU! Now hear me: the authority is given, but it must be activated. You can’t just quote Luke 10:19 and expect results without standing in faith, resisting the devil, and walking in obedience.
Many believers try to tread on the devil without intimacy with God. They try to crush serpents without a prayer life. But authority flows from relationship. Victory flows from submission to Christ and a willingness to war in the Spirit.
That means:
Standing on the Word when everything is shaking.
Praying in the Spirit when your flesh wants to quit.
Warring in worship when the enemy roars.
Fasting and decreeing when hell breaks loose.
You were never promised a life without conflict, but you were promised victory in the battle. you have the authority now it’s time to use it.
4. and nothing will [in any way] harm you- This doesn’t mean you won’t feel the sting of warfare. It means that sting won’t stick. The weapons may form, but they will not prosper. You may face perils, but they will not prevail.
You are not at the mercy of serpents and scorpions. They are under your feet.
Romans 16:20 reminds us:
“And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly.”
God is looking for warriors who will not back down. He’s looking for those who will trample, not tiptoe. he looking for those who will step up not step off. he looking for those who will stomp on his head not stand, he looking for those who will fight the good fight of faith.
I know those times in your life that felt dark and lonely that you felt defeated as if you wanted to give up, but I’m here to encourage you want today to remind you that you now have authority to overcome the battles in your mind, you now have the authority to talk of the enemy, you now have the abilities to stand to tow a man with your depression, you now have the ability and the authority to stand against all of your trials and tribulations. And to know that you will have victory of every situation that you encounter from this day fourth because now you are going to take hole to and possess the authority that God has given you.
No longer are we going to be the footstool of the enemy, no longer are we going to allow our minds to play tricks on us, no longer are we going to allow the enemy to run rapid in our hearts, no longer are we going to allow the enemy to run rapid in our minds, no longer we going to allow the enemy to run rapid in our families, no longer are we going to allow the enemy to run rapid in the church, no longer are we going to allow the enemy glory to God to have his way in our lives because we now have the authority to trample over his head
Watch this
Jesus —
Callin' seventy more —
Sendin' them out —
Two by two —
And when they came back —
They came back rejoicing —
"Lord — even the DEVILS — were subject unto us!"
(Building)
And Jesus said unto them
"I beheld Satan —
Fall — like lightning — from heaven!"
Then He said it —
BEHOLD —
I GIVE unto YOU —
Not I'll think about it —
Not I might —
I GIVE —
Power — to tread —
On serpents —
And scorpions —
(Pick up pace)
Not to run from 'em —
Not to hide from 'em —
To TREAD on 'em!
Whatever's tryna sting you —
Whatever's tryna poison your peace —
Whatever's tryna strike at your family —
Your finances —
Your ministry —
You got power to TREAD!
(Peak — full voice)
And not just serpents —
Not just scorpions —
He said ALL —
ALL the power —
Of the ENEMY —
And then He sealed it —
He said — NOTHING —
NOTHING shall by any means —
Hurt you!
Not maybe —
Not partially —
NOTHING!
(Resolve — slow, confident)
So devil, you can send what you want —
You can send sickness —
You can send lack —
You can send confusion —
But greater is He —
That's in me —
Than he that's in the world —
And nothing —
By any means —
Shall hurt me!
