Build Connection
Have you been 100% sure of something only to find out your were wrong? Sometimes we guess and we know we are guessing and other times we are confident, but confidence does not guarantee correctness.
So on Monday evening, I was golfing in golf league and as we were on our way back to the clubhouse, my golf cart decided to just quit.
It was the battery. through a series of trial and error I came to the conclusion it was needing a “wake-up pulse.”
I wasn’t sure, but through research and listening to others, I found the answer! But isn’t wasn’t until the battery started charging that I was confident I was right.
Create Tension
We guess on a lot of things, but there is one thing we can not afford to guess on and that is our eternal destination!

It is only those who know they need saving that accept the Savior!
People are often looking for something from Jesus he is not offering!
Romans 3:23 “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”
You will never find fullness in Jesus until you realize how fully you need Jesus.
1. Jesus has defeated the Penalty of Sin (Justification)
The moment you trust Christ, the legal condemnation of your sin is permanently removed.
Scripture
Romans 6:23 “23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Colossians 2:13–14 “13 You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. 14 He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.”
Romans 8:1 “1 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.”
Key Points
The Legal Debt: Sin carries a death sentence that holiness demands must be paid.
The Substitution: Jesus stood in our place in the courtroom of God's justice.
The Result: We are justified—declared legally righteous and free from the fear of hell.
Illustration
Consider Marcus, a convicted murderer, thief, and all round bad guy, everyone knows he is guilty, he says so himself. After going through trial and found guilty he was sentenced to death by lethal injection. Then right before Marcus is suppose to be killed, the judge shows up in his prison cell. The judge takes off his robe and changes clothes with Marcus. The judge pays the price for Marcus’ guilt while Marcus is freed! That is what Jesus did on the cross.
2. Jesus has defeated the Power of Sin (Sanctification)
We no longer have to live as slaves to temptation and broken habits in our daily lives.Scripture
Romans 6:14 “14 Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.”
Galatians 5:16 “16 So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.”
1 Corinthians 10:13 “13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.”
Key Points
The Broken Chain: The resurrection broke the spiritual monopoly sin had over human desires.
The Present Tense: This is a daily, ongoing battle where we rely on the Holy Spirit.
The New Master: You now have the supernatural ability to say "no" to old vices.
IllustrationIn
1865, the Emancipation Proclamation legally freed all slaves in the United States. However, history notes that some plantation owners kept the news hidden, keeping slaves working in the fields for months out of habit and fear. Legally, they were free; practically, they still lived like slaves. Many Christians live this way. The chains are unlocked, the cage door is open, and Jesus has broken the power of the master. We just need to walk out.
3. Jesus will remove the Presence of Sin (Glorification)
The final stage of our redemption is the total elimination of sin from our environment and existence.Scripture
Revelation 21:3–4 “3 I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.””
1 John 3:2 “2 Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is.”
Philippians 3:20–21 “20 But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior. 21 He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.”
Key Points
The Ultimate Hope: Salvation is not just about going to heaven; it is about a renewed creation.
The Total Absence: In glory, there will be no temptation, no corruption, and no broken systems.
The Final Transformation: We will be given new bodies completely incapable of sinning.
Illustration
Consider a soldier fighting in a brutal war. When the peace treaty is signed, the war is legally won (Penalty defeated). When the enemy forces begin retreating, the soldier experiences safety in his daily operations (Power defeated). But the ultimate joy happens when the soldier finally boards a plane, flies home, and steps into a land where there are no bombs, no enemies, and no war zones at all. That is the future reality of heaven—the total absence of the enemy.
Encourage Change
Summary:
Jesus saved us from the penalty of sin through His death.
Jesus is saving us from the power of sin through His Spirit.
Jesus will save us from the presence of sin through His return.
Call to Action: Do not live like a spiritual orphan. Trust the cross for your past, lean on the Spirit for your present, and anchor your soul in the hope of your future.
