Awesome worship. Terrible God.
Our entire lives were meant for worship. It is the single most important thing that we were made for. It is the one thing that permeates and binds together every other action that we take. It is the building block of what it means to be human.
Worship is the whole-life expression of the worth, the glory, and the goodness of God.
Worship is the whole-life expression of the worth, the glory, and the goodness of God.
It’s not just confined to one thing we do, or even a genre of music we listen to….
Worship is when we go to work
When we go to school
When we go to dinner,
When we cut the grass, WORSHIP…..permeates every area of our lives…..we are constantly worshipping……something. Or someone.
See, that’s the dangerous side of it, and that’s the part that sin has come in and twisted
Because we were MADE worshipping God. But sin enters the scene, twists us up, and now all of a sudden we’re worshipping….anything else…..
It’s what Martin Luther meant when he said, “The Human heart is a factory for making idols”
So….if we’re going to get this idea of worship right…….we need to know what it looks like. And our only hope for that is in Scripture.
So open your Bibles….we’re going to take a look at probably one of the best definitions for what worship is.
Rom 12:1-2
It is motivated by God's mercy
It is motivated by God's mercy
Right off the bat, we see that our worship is a direct response to what God has already done.
Now think about this for me. All of the other things we dwell on. And we worship. And we agonize over. Maybe it’s getting into the right school. Maybe it’s making it onto a team. Maybe it’s getting a car, a job, WHATEVER IT IS……
We worship other things…so that we can GET them……
But check this out….OUR worship of God….comes AFTER He’s already given Himself to us!!!
God makes the first move always. But the next move is ours. That’s why I say that
True worship reflects on what God has done, and who He is.
True worship reflects on what God has done, and who He is.
Something else about true worship
It is part of every facet of your life.
It is part of every facet of your life.
I touched on this earlier.
Hope understands this intrinsically well. She is able to tie everything in her life into God, and His goodness…..every act becomes an act of worship.
In fact…people who spend their lives like this…..
Your worship on Sunday reflects your worship throughout the week

It demands a transformed mind

We become the things we dwell on.
