The Kingdom has a Standard

Upholding that standard will bring persecution
Matthew 5:10 ESV
10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Righteousness = being in right relationship with God and living in accordance with His will.

Righteousness is visibly being submitted to God’s rule.

The Righteous live according to God’s Standards

The Righteous are Loyal to Christ

A life in line with the beatitudes is a life that reflects righteousness

Being aligned with God’s Kingdom standards means being out of line with the world’s culture

We cannot have it both ways...
Matthew 6:24 ESV
24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

When we live according to Kingdom standards, the world is not rejecting us, they are rejecting Christ

2 Timothy 3:12 ESV
12 Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,
Matthew 5:11 ESV
11 “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.

Persecution proves that you are on the right team

John 15:18–20 ESV
18 “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20 Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.
Which team are you on..?
Matthew 5:12 ESV
12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

We have a reason to rejoice, even in the midst of suffering

Romans 5:3–5 ESV
3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

We are not alone!

When the world rejects us, heaven affirms us, Christ identifies with us, and our eternal reward is secure.
