1 Peter 5:1-5

1 Peter 5:5–7 ESV
5 Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
James 4:6–10 ESV
6 But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
This is a call to morn your sins.
Who wants more Grace??
Want to rid yourself of Anxiety!
Learn to go to Jesus and do an exchange.
Humbling yourself by asking !
Asking for help not being to proud to ask!!
Matthew 11:28–30 ESV
28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Humility: It is not thinking less of yourself, but rather thinking of yourself less—choosing to lay down self-interest to serve God and others.
1 Peter 5:8–11 ESV
8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
1 Peter 1:13–16 ESV
13 Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
Have you prepared yourself ?
Prepare: a metaphor derived from the practice of the Orientals, who in order to be unimpeded in their movements were accustomed, when starting a journey or engaging in any work, to bind their long flowing garments closely around their bodies and fastened them with a leather belt.
In other words have you removed anything that might hinder you in the way your think?
Is our conduit HOLY?
Not defined by us, but by the Word of the Lord and His Holy Spirit?
Watchful: to watch, give strict attention to, be cautious, active, to take heed lest through remission and indolence some destructive calamity suddenly overtake one
Indolence: Laziness
Have you let your guard down and in turn allowed the enemy of your soul into your camp (your life)?
Now get this when you care for yourself you are walking in self sufficiency (Pride) and are opening a door for the enemy to come marching.
Be sober ... vigilant—"Care," that is, anxiety, will intoxicate the soul; therefore be sober, that is, self-restrained. Yet, lest this freedom from care should lead any to false security, he adds, "Be vigilant" against "your adversary." Let this be your "care." God provides, therefore do not be anxious. The devil seeks, therefore watch
How do we resist him?
By being firm in our faith!
James 4:7 ESV
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Trust God with all of your heart.
1 Peter 5:7 ESV
7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
HOLD ON
1 Peter 5:10 ESV
10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
You can trust in His love for you!
Colossians 3:2 ESV
2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
What is the purpose?
Hebrews 13:20–21 ESV
20 Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, 21 equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
