One of our problems: we think of ourselves too much.
One of our problems: we think of ourselves too much.
You can read this statement in at least two ways. 1. We think to highly of ourselves. This would be 100% true most of the time. But the second way is just as important. 2. We think of ourselves too often in general.
John wanted to impress on the church the foundation.
John wanted to impress on the church the foundation.
Writing much later than the other Gospels he does not replay the actual meal. Not because what Jesus said about Communion is not important but because His Gospel was to “supplement” what was already stated.
Jesus is in control. This is not a “tragedy”.
Jesus is in control. This is not a “tragedy”.
Nothing about the cross is a tragedy nor is the betrayal of Judas; at least not in the traditional sense.
Loving well opens us up to pain.
Loving well opens us up to pain.
This is undeniable from my point of view.
Out of love we serve.
Out of love we serve.
The problem with Servant Leadership, or the phrase, can possibly be we do something because we want to be the leader and in charge. This misses the point of what Jesus has done in this chapter. We serve because of love and for no other reason. Serving is never a means to an end.
Love goes the distance.
Love goes the distance.
It is not just how we start but it is also how we finish that matters. Jesus loves to the end, completely.
We must do what Jesus did and does.
We must do what Jesus did and does.
He says in verse 17 now that you “know” these things you will be blessed if you “do them”.Knowledge not lived out is meaningless.
It is hard to love when we don’t let Jesus love us.
It is hard to love when we don’t let Jesus love us.
We cannot give what we do not have. The world cannot love well, completely, fully, or faithfully because it is not connected to the well which will not run dry. But we do. Yet, we must allow ourselves to be loved and then not try and hold on to it.
Loving well does not mean perfection.
Loving well does not mean perfection.
Everyone breath a sigh of relief.
Let us love like Jesus!
Let us love like Jesus!
This is our goal. It comes from a correct believe in Jesus and correct theology. It is not a love that says anything goes but it is a love that will save.
