Today we are continuing your series of lessons on “I Want To Go To Heaven” and be with God for all of eternity.
Last week we examined God Is Our Refuge.
He is our relief.
He is our enliven.
He is our fail-safe.
He is our uplift.
He is our glory reestablished.
He is our Emend.
This morning we are going to examine that which is commonly understood of God, his holiness.
Holiness means “set apart and distinctively different.”
When applied to God it indicates that he is radically distinctive in existence and character, transcended above all things created.
Naturally then, the bible is full of passages that point to God’s holiness.
3 And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!”
9 Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at his holy mountain; for the Lord our God is holy!
Though, we are going to talk about God’s holiness this morning, we are going to be doing so in light of how his holiness should motivate us to want to be in heaven with God forever.
So with that in mind, lets begin by examining God’s holiness as seen in his…

God is holiness means that he is “pure goodness with no darkness.”
5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
What does this mean for us, and our desire to be with God forever in heaven?
God’s holiness or perfect goodness means he has no hidden motives.
30 This God—his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.
God’s holiness or perfect goodness means he will never betray us.
5 Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

I want to go to heaven and I hope you do too, because God in his holiness has perfect goodness.
God is incapable of deceiving us or disappointing us.
His holiness, in fact, guarantees that heaven will be a place of safety for us.

When God is in our lives he holiness surrounds us with his presence.
7 Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? 8 If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! 9 If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, 10 even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.
9 And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding
But God’s holiness doesn’t just surround us with his presence, not it also changes us.
It changes our spiritual condition.
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
It changes our mindset.
2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
It changes our outlook.
20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Summary
God’s holiness in our lives is not static.
God’s holiness, his transforming presence, is continually working in our lives to help us become the fully the people we were created to be.
A people free from sin and able to spend an eternity with their Creator.

God’s holiness is what makes his presence in our life now, and ultimately in heaven worth more than anything else.
Humans naturally desire to be around people they love, admire, and receive love and care back from.
There is no one that wants fellowship with us more, who loves, admires, and wants to be with us more than our Creator.
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I want to go to heaven and be with God for all of eternity because God’s holiness is the reason heaven is not just a place, it’s a relationship perfected.
It’s where our God calls us home to be with him.

12 Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
