Revival: Night 2

When the Spirit FILLS…. Things FALL

We crave the spirit to FALL… to fill… but can i tell you it does more than make me feel good…

When the spirit FILLS me… the THE CHAINS that held me FALL..

When the SPIRIT FILLS ME…. The bitterness that held me falls

When the spirit FILLS ME… the disappointment that held me falls

When the Spirit fills me….. the FEAR that held me falls

When the spirit FILLS… THINGS FALL

Acts 9:17–18

“17 Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, ‘Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.’ 18 Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptised,”

It’s important to understand….JESUS set us free…. The SPIRIT empowers us to live free…

John 8:36

“36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

Set FREE

2 Corinthians 3:17

“17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”

LIVE FREE

ILLUST - CHAINS/LOCK

Add the chains on… anger, hurt, disappointment, fear, insecurity…

Jesus set us free…. UNLOCKED….. the SPIRIT empowers us to LIVE FREE.. drop the chains….

When the spirit FILLS… things FALL

1.) The Holy Spirit opens my eyes

Saul had a different PERSPECTIVE… after being filled with the HOLY SPIRIT

It wasn’t just that things changed… what HE SAW changed…

What he saw in himself

What he saw in the LORD

What he saw in others

What he saw in the world

Maybe were more concerned about THE THINGS changing… rather than the scales on our eyes falling

I’m reminded of the time that Elijah and his servant get trapped… and they are surrounded… Elijah doesn’t pray away the enemy… he doesn’t pray away his servants fear… he prays for HIS EYES to be opened

2 Kings 6:16–17

“16 ‘Don’t be afraid,’ the prophet answered. ‘Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.’ 17 And Elisha prayed, ‘Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.’ Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all round Elisha.”

So many of us are praying against the force that is surrounding us… the world, the culture, the enemy, the affliction, the addiction.. the hurt, the bitterness, the illness… and we forgot, we may be surrounded by crazy, conflict and chaos… but we are FILLED with the fire of the HOLY SPIRIT and GREATER is HE that is IN… IN US than HE that is IN the world

When the SPIRIT FILLS… IN ME… things FALL…. Around me … come on

2.) The HOLY SPIRIT empowers us to LIVE FREE

Again to clarify…. JESUS is the source of your freedom…. HE UNLOCKED, you and set you free…

**we never graduate from the work of the cross**

The Holy Spirit is the power to walk in that FREEDOM

Romans 8:1–2

“8 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.”

Jesus sets us free.. the Spirit empowers us to LIVE FREE

Galatians 5:16

“16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”

It doesn’t call us to push against the flesh… it says LIVE moment by moment by the SPIRIT

It’s not try harder… its surrender deeper… depend more…. Repent faster come on….

Zechariah 4:6

“6 “Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,” says the Lord Almighty.”

Illust: GLOVE ILLUSTRATION

We can yell at it to raise its hand.. to pick up the bible.. we can place it at the altar… but until ITS FILLED… its powerless

Acts 1:8

“8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.’”

the spirit isn’t a feeling…. It’s EMPOWERMENT…

3.) The HOLY SPIRIT releases Healing

go back to Saul…

he was filled…. Then healed..

Acts 9:18

“18 Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptised,”

Healing was a mark of the church in Acts

Acts 3 — lame man walks.

Acts 5 — sick people are healed.

Acts 8 — healing breaks out in Samaria.

Acts 9 — Saul receives his sight.

Acts 10 — Holy Spirit falls on Cornelius’ house.

Acts 14 — lame man walks.

Acts 19 — extraordinary miracles happen through Paul.

Acts 28 — Publius’ father is healed.

1 Corinthians 12:9

“9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,”

We believe in a GOD who heals… we will lay hands on the sick tonight and believe for miraculous healing…

We believe, we ask… we trust GOD with the result…

We don’t have to understand everything God does… to Obey everything He says…

He says lay hands on the sick… we will do that…

I believe it HOLY HEALING… in other words… complete and not lacking,

Physical, emotional, mental, RELATIONAL

James 5:16

“16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”

There is a powerful principle here about the unity and healing in the early church…

THE HOLY SPIRIT FLOWS where UNITY GROWS

In fact I want to take you back to Acts 9

Acts 9:17–18

“17 Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, ‘Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.’ 18 Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptised,”

See… before Acts 9:17… comes

Acts 9:13–14

“13 ‘Lord,’ Ananias answered, ‘I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your holy people in Jerusalem. 14 And he has come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name.’”

What do we call Saul…. It starts with a B

Bully, broken, boneheaded….brutal…

but the HOLY SPIRIT had to restore something IN ANANIAS… so HE could release something THROUGH ANANIAS….

And ANANIAS….walks right up to Saul and says BROTHER…

Can I tell you before the scales fell off of Saul’s eyes.. they fell off Aananias… before Saul saw differently… Ananaias saw Saul differently.

I believe the mark of the HOLY SPIRIT is relational healings…

4.) the Holy Spirit Releases VICTORY

choose your stronghold!!!

2 Corinthians 10:4

“4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.”

We all have strongholds… that have a hold on us… but then you read Psalm and something jumped off the page

Psalm 27:1

“1 The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?”

Something is going to have a hold of you…. You choose… the power of the HOLY SPIRIT or the substance of this world…

You choose true victory through surrender, or captivity through control..

you choose the filling of the HOLY SPIRIT or the empty living of sin

You choose….

ALTAR:

Jesus sets you free…. Salvation NOW

The Holy SPIRIT empowers us to freedom, victory and healing

Laying on of hands….
