INTRODUCTION.
Only recorded in Luke.
Luke 10:38–42 NASB95
38 Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord’s feet, listening to His word. 40 But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; 42 but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”
Let us dive into this passage and look at four characteristics of a balanced worshiping believer.
MESSAGE.

1. A worshiping believer INVITES Christ into your worship.

Luke 10:38 “38 Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home.”
We invite Christ into our worship because He is the One worthy of our worship.
It is because of who Christ is: His Divine nature. (Colossians 1:15-20)
The Son of God.
The Sacrificial Lamb.
The head of the church.
It is because of His redemptive work.
He gave His life for the believer.
He rose from the grave and defeated sin and death.
He came to our sacrifice.
Hebrews 12:2 NASB95
2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

2. A worshipping believer is an active DISCIPLE of Christ.

Luke 10:39 “39 She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord’s feet, listening to His word.”
fffffff
The proper place for a disciple.
Growing in faith.
Mary seen three times in Scripture and she is seen at Jesus’ feet. I believe her faith had grown through each as she encountered Jesus at greater intervals in her life.
Learning who He was. Luke 10:39 “39 She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord’s feet, listening to His word.”
Expressing her grief. John 11:32 “32 Therefore, when Mary came where Jesus was, she saw Him, and fell at His feet, saying to Him, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.””
Giving her all - costly Worshipping and Honoring. John 12:3 “3 Mary then took a pound of very costly perfume of pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.”

3. A worshiping believer must not become DISTRACTED.

While both were worshiping Jesus ,but Martha got lost in her actions of worship.
Luke 10:40 “40 But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me.””
Martha became distracted and her focused shifted from Who she was worshiping to what she was doing.
Matthew 7:22 NASB95
22 “Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’
Martha became distracted and her focused shifted from Worshiping Christ to TELLING Christ what to do.
Luke 10:40 “40 But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me.””
“She came up to Him” stepping up to or bursting in or upon Jesus (Word Pictures in the New Testament p. 156)
It is an explosive act as is the speech of Martha. (Word Pictures in the New Testament p. 165)
Martha became distracted and her focused shifted from Worship Christ to being worried. Luke 10:41 “41 But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things;”
We are told not to worry
Philippians 4:6–7 NASB95
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Often we allow things to get in our way.
Life.
Grief.
Lack of Hope.
Because Martha became distracted her worship was action centered and not heartfelt worship because her heart was not focused on Christ.

4. A worshiping believer must CHOOSE for themselves.

Luke 10:42 “42 but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.””
Believers must choose for themselves, someone else cannot choose for them.
Joshua 24:15 NASB95
15 “If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
God rewards those who Worship Him.
God’s rewards can be both immediate and future.
Hebrews 11:6 “6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.”
Psalm 16:11 “11 You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.”
James 4:8 “8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
