Romans 1:19–20 CSB
19 since what can be known about God is evident among them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, that is, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen since the creation of the world, being understood through what he has made. As a result, people are without excuse
Genesis 1:6–8 CSB
6 Then God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters, separating water from water.” 7 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above the expanse. And it was so. 8 God called the expanse “sky.” Evening came and then morning: the second day.

intro

God has designed nature to reveal his nature. There is a reason that you can climb a mountain, build a fire in the woods, take a hike or swim in the ocean and feel the greatness of our God. I cannot look at anything in creation and not be in awe of our creator. Many of the times where I have heard God clearest has been in the midst of his creation. I know that it is because according to Romans 1, all of nature points to him.
Everything was created by his word. It was by his word that he spoke into the nothing that existed in genesis 1 and created the universe. So if you feel like you have nothing take heart because it is on the canvas of nothing that Jesus paints his most beautiful art. Everything is sustained by his word. Hebrews 1:3 “3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact expression of his nature, sustaining all things by his powerful word…”. His word brought order to chaos, it filled the empty void with life.

Created Space

On Day 2 of creation, God doesn’t fill anything—He separates. He creates space. Before He forms life, He forms order.
Sometimes God’s greatest work in your life is not what He adds—but what He separates.

Point 1: God Brings Order Out of Chaos

Before this moment, the earth was “without form and void” (Genesis 1:2). Waters covered everything—no structure, no boundaries, just chaos.
But then God speaks: “Let there be an expanse…”
The word Expanse means —a stretched-out space. God literally pulls apart what was mixed together.
Truth: God is a God of order, not confusion.
Where there is emotional chaos, God brings peace
Where there is spiritual confusion, God brings clarity
Where life feels overwhelming, God begins to separate things
Application: If your life feels chaotic right now, it may not mean God is absent—it may mean God is in the process of dividing and ordering. In fact, many times when you were trying to sort things out in your life, you may say something like “I just need some space right now”. It is because in that space that you have, you can sort out and separate and work through everything going on. When you take a vacation, you are creating space. When you take a step back, you are creating space and in that empty space God can work.

Point 2: God Separates Before He Elevates

God separates the waters above from the waters below.
This is powerful: elevation required separation.
Before birds could fly in the heavens (Day 5), God had to first create the heavens by separating the waters.
Principle: God will often separate you from things before He promotes you into new things.
Separation from old habits
Separation from unhealthy relationships
Separation from distractions
We often resist separation because it feels like loss—but it is actually preparation.
Application: What is God trying to separate in your life right now?
Sometimes we pray for increase, but God answers with distance—from people, places, or patterns that can’t go where He’s taking us.

Point 3: The Space God Creates Has a Purpose

God calls the expanse “Heaven.”
What once looked like empty space now has identity and purpose.
That space would eventually:
Hold the clouds
Carry the winds
Become the domain where birds would soar
Truth: The empty spaces in your life are not meaningless—they are God-ordained.
We often fear emptiness:
Empty seasons
Quiet moments
Waiting periods
But God uses space to prepare for what’s next.
Application: That season where nothing seems to be happening… That silence where you don’t hear God clearly…
It may actually be God making room.
